Job description

This is an exciting opportunity for a talented individual to own the vision for automation and analytic capability in a forward-thinking network operations team in an iconic global company at the forefront of next generation satellite communication solutions such as the connected car, aircraft passenger connectivity etc.


You’d be joining at a time when satellite communication solutions are not only experiencing fast growth but also radically shifting to become retail, e-commerce and digitally centric.


What will you do?


  • As part of the Service Monitoring and Incident Management Team, detection and identification of significant events, alerting and communication of events, determination of probable root causes through analysis and tools, identification and execution of remedial actions to ensure services remain in their optimal state, and reporting on the effectiveness of solutions to drive further improvements.
  • Identification of existing automation across Network Operations to: (i) suggest best practices to align efforts and orchestrate automation initiatives, and (ii) build a wider understanding of available and potential data sources and opportunities to utilise them.
  • Automate! Design and deliver robust scalable monitoring solutions that detect issues before services are impacted and efficiently remediate them with minimal disruption.
  • Work closely with the Continuous Improvement Team to support performance analysis, creating tools to enable teams, departments and individuals to measure, track and report their KPIs/OKRs.

Given this is a relatively greenfield environment for business-wide automation, you’ll have an inquisitive mindset, excellent inter-personal skills, a passion for automation and desire to establish best practice. A solid understanding of or keen interest in satellite, mobile or fixed telecommunication networks will also assist.


Essential


  • Strong Linux and networking knowledge and experience implementing automation in virtualised environments.
  • Comprehensive experience working with working with relational databases and query language.
  • Demonstrable experience in object-oriented languages such as Python, Ruby, R or JavaScript, utilising available libraries to analyse and visualise large datasets to gain insights.
  • A keen interest in applying data analysis techniques and intelligent automation, with a strong curiosity in machine learning.
  • Structured and analytical approach to problem solving, with an ability to break down complex tasks and explain them in non-technical terms.


Desirable


  • Experience in scripting Bash or PowerShell.
  • Experience in visualistion products or libraries, such as Tableau, Power BI, Matplotlib, ggplot, Seaborn.
  • Experience working with Cloud platforms (GCP, AWS, Azure etc).
  • Experience working and building APIs using Web Frameworks e.g. Flask or FastAPI.
  • Experience of monitoring platforms such Nagios, Icinga2 or Dataminer.
  • Experience in optimising monitoring and event management in an operational environment, using statistical analysis, anomaly detection, and correlation techniques.
  • Knowledge of ITSM or CRM tools such as ServiceNow, Remedy, Microsoft Dynamics, Salesforce.
  • Appreciation of best practices and methodologies, such as ITIL and Lean Six Sigma.
