Cortex is a group of Machine Learning (ML) researchers, engineers, and scientists working together to improve Twitter by enabling advanced and ethical AI. We empower internal teams to efficiently leverage ML by providing a platform and modeling expertise, and unifying, educating, and advancing the state-of-the-art in ML technologies within Twitter.

In this role, reporting to the Head of Cortex Strategy & Operations (S&O), you will partner with leadership to drive effective business and organizational excellence by developing and leading projects that improve alignment to priorities, communications, knowledge-sharing, productivity, and how we build.

What it Takes

The ideal candidate has experience working closely with a variety of cross-functional experts and leaders, has a high level of business acumen, has super-human problem-solving skills, and the ability to work collaboratively across teams and organizations undergoing large-scale change.

Understanding of how centralized machine-learning organizations can effectively drive company results.

Confident in conversations primarily with engineering, data science, research, and product but also with HR, recruiting, sourcing, legal, policy and finance teams.

Problem solver and strategic thinker who is comfortable using frameworks and data to help structure the team's thinking and solve multi-faceted problems.

Extensive experience leading complex cross-functional initiatives, adept at driving cross-functional teams to make strategic decisions and execute.

What You’ll Be Doing

You will partner with the S&O Lead to drive the quarterly/annual planning and operational cadences, help prioritize critical issues, and drive accountability and follow-through in execution of our strategy. You will also drive and improve a variety of key business and organizational operations critical to our success. In general, the role has (but are not limited to) the following activities and expectations:

  • Help drive and orchestrate the overall quarterly and annual strategic planning process for Cortex, including OKRs aligned to our vision and company goals, financial planning, and resource planning.
  • Orchestrate effective change management of business transformation efforts and strategic priorities.
  • Drive and improve processes that enable our various external engagements and partnerships.
  • Create and then drive a central knowledge management program and processes.
  • Represent Cortex as key liaison in coordinating with other internal planning functions (e.g. Finance, HR, etc.).
  • Drive and improve resource planning and management.
  • Identify and execute ad-hoc strategic projects - everything from defining new opportunities to executing cross-functional initiatives - aimed at improving how we build.
  • Bring key insights and trusted independent advice; service as a consultant and trusted advisor.


  • 4-6 years experience preferably with 5+ years of experience in program management or 5+ years of experience in management consulting or business strategy/planning.
  • Experience developing and program-managing company-wide and organization-wide projects, including through periods of significant change.
  • Experience working in technology startups or companies, preferably those in-between the start-up and established-company stage.
  • Outstanding written and spoken communication skills in English.
  • Known as a tireless and effective multitasker comfortable shifting between hands-on detailed analysis and big picture thinking and customizing communication based on the audience.
  • Known for thriving in ambiguity and complexity.
  • Passionate interest in Twitter’s products and mission, and about the role machine learning could play towards advancing them.
