Our team is responsible for the development, performance and availability of our industry leading SciVal web-based analytics solution. The product provides research market intelligence and analytics serving the needs of research leaders and funders, providing access to the research performance of over 20,000 research institutions and their associated researchers. We use cloud services, big data, graph, search and data science technologies to ensure continuous improvement, reliability, and performance. It enables the visualization of research and insights to help identify and analyze new, emerging trends.

As a Senior Data Engineer, you will be working with the latest technology to create great experiences and valuable analytics for our customers. You will provide key operational support for our SciVal application, big data processes and environments. You will collaborate with technical teams to identify and implement improvements to quality and operational performance.


Responsibilities:

· Develop and maintain our SciVal web-based big data analytics product.

· Work on implementations of big data software, releases, and bug-fixes to improve performance, stability, and data integrity.

· Implement new product features as per the requirements.

· Provide operational support for big data processes to ensure swift resolution of incidents.

· Collaborate with cross-functional technical teams to analyze, prioritize and resolve customer product issues.

· Maintain and update internal support documentation to ensure information and knowledge is available and shared.

· Mentor junior engineers in squad and effectively lead the technical discussions.


Requirements:

To be successful in this role you will:

· Demonstrate good Software Engineering experience gained in an Agile development environment

· Have experience or familiarity with development languages such as, Java 8 or later versions, Scala, Spark, REST, SQL, NoSQL DBs such as Elasticsearch, Neo4j, etc.

· Show knowledge of Amazon Web Services (AWS) Cloud environments and services or be willing to learn.

· Display experience or knowledge of environments for big data engineering and distributed computation.

· Have a 'Clean Code' mentality and practical understanding of SOLID principles.

· Have knowledge of test-driven development (TDD) and frameworks such as Junit, Mockito.

· Have knowledge of CI/CD pipelines and using tools such as Jenkins.

· Have excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate complex problems in a simple, concise manner.

· Have experience in working on a product migration to a microservices based architecture is a plus.

· Be able to participate in a team, On-Call support rotation.
