The Data Insights & Analytics team at Loblaw is seeking a Senior Data Analyst with background in big data, cloud and relational databases. We are currently in the process of modernizing the data infrastructure onto cloud technologies to unlock the value of our data and drive richer insights to our business partners.

Reporting to the Senior Manager, Data Insight & Analytics , the incumbent will support large data initiatives by leveraging their expertise in obtaining, analyzing and manipulating data to identify insights and data patterns. He or she will be responsible for creating and maintaining data requirements, transformations and system documentation.

What You'll Do:

• Responsible for the extraction and analysis of complex information from a variety of databases.
• Provide support to Data Governance initiatives such as data quality, data lineage and metadata management.
• Transform extracted data from large and disconnected datasets into insights suitable for presentation to various audiences.
• Develop capabilities to identify areas of opportunity and improve business processes, data architecture and reporting efficiency.
• Work collaboratively with business and analytics groups, on cross functional projects and data initiatives to solve business problems.
• Extract, review and prepare data for analysis & reporting using SQL and/or Python.
• Creation of UML diagrams including but not limited to sequence and data flow diagrams.
• Strictly adhere to legal and compliance guidelines; regarding access and exposure to sensitive and confidential information.

What You'll Bring:

• Mandatory: Advanced SQL querying for data mining, extraction and preparation.
• University Degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics or Information Systems is preferred.
• Minimum 5 years of experience in utilizing advanced data extraction and manipulation tools (MS SQL, Teradata, etc.).
• Minimum 5 years of experience in Data mining working with large relational databases.
• Technical background with a solid understanding of database design is an asset.
• Experience with Hadoop and understanding of its components (HDFS, HBase, Spark) is an asset.
• Experience with Cloud technologies (GCP, Azure) is an asset.
• Superb analytical and conceptual thinking skills; to not only manipulate but also derive meaningful interpretations from data.
• Demonstrated knowledge of the data management lifecycle, including experience with data quality and metadata management.
• Experience in conducting business analysis to gather requirements from non-technical stakeholders.
• A Team player and self-starter with the ability to take initiative, multi-task and work in a fast-paced environment.
