As a directorate of the PRA, the Supervisory Risk Specialists (SRS) provides deep technical expertise and applies judgement in specific risk disciplines in order to identify, analyse and mitigate material risks to the safety and soundness of PRA regulated firms. SRS also supports the wider Bank through providing risk specialist expertise to a range of functions including policy development and implementation, the Bank's concurrent stress tests and the supervision of central counterparties.

SRS is split into four main divisions:

  • Credit Risk
  • Operational Risk & Resilience (ORRD)
  • Risk Analytics, Liquidity and Capital (RALC)
  • Traded Risk

Department Overview

Within RALC, the Quantitative Modelling and Analysis team (QMA) provides quantitative modelling and analytics, data solutions and technical expertise to Risk Specialists, Supervisors and other partners across the Bank.

Key roles for QMA include the development, implementation and maintenance of tools and models used for risk assessment, including for the annual stress testing of major UK Deposit Takers. These include SRS’ Data Management Tool, Secured Retail and Wholesale Impairments forecasting models, Net Interest Income and Pensions models.

QMA also interacts with colleagues across the Bank on the design and implementation of Bank wide Data and Analytics Strategies. QMA also works with are main Technology area to collaborate on data solution projects.

Job description

As a Data Scientist in QMA, you will work in a small but highly effective team to provide database and analytics solutions for quantitative modelers and risk specialists. This role has a broad remit that spans the full lifecycle of analysis, design, implementation, maintenance and support.

Job responsibilities are the development and support of a business critical SQL based data management system as well as work on data pipelines and other database solutions. There will also be opportunities over time to work on model implementation and related platform initiatives.

The QMA team works closely with business teams, an important aspect of this role is close communication with teams across SRS and an ability to understand how and why they do things as well as their business requirements.

Role Requirements

Minimum Criteria

  • Proven SQL programming ability.
  • Experience in the design and creation of database objects such as Views, Functions and Stored Procedures.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of relational databases and data structures.

Essential Criteria

  • Experience in building and supporting data solutions.
  • Ability to understand business needs and translate them into effective solutions.
  • Good interpersonal skills and experience of collaborating in a team.

Desirable Criteria

  • Knowledge of C# programming or similar object orientated language.
  • Ability to build R and /or Tableau based data analytic and visualisation solutions.
  • Excellent communication with demonstrated ability to tailor communication with colleagues of differing levels of Technical knowledge.

The salary range for this vacancy is approximately £35,700 - £41,580, dependent on relevant skills and experience. In addition, the total reward package also includes:

  • A non-contributory, career average pension giving you a guaranteed retirement benefit of 1/95th of your annual salary for every year worked. There is the option to increase your pension (to 1/50th) or decrease (to 1/120th) in exchange for salary through our flexible benefits programme each year.
