We are currently seeking a Data Scientist to join our growing team. This role can be based in our Carlsbad, CA office, or Berlin, Germany Office and would work with a team, which is located in both Carlsbad, US, and Berlin, Germany.


The overarching objective of Data Science at Verve is to deliver greater value to both our advertisers and publishers. We are looking for motivated individuals with a technical background (preferably in advertising) to our growing data science team. You are hands-on with projects, have a strong aptitude for research, understand business challenges as optimization problems, innovates data driven approaches in order to overcome them and can challenge the status-quo.

As Verve brings the capabilities of SSPs, Exchange, DSPs, and DMPs under one umbrella, our Data Science Research currently follows two major tracks covering different aspects:


  • Audience Focused
    • Audience Characterization - Segment users into audience while respecting and preserving their privacy,
    • Content Delivery - Measure ads and targeting performance,
    • Smart Targeting - Create new targeting capabilities and metrics to deliver more value to publishers and advertisers
    • Market Research - Expand our understanding of our customers and audience,
  • Exchange Focused
    • Bid Price Optimization - Optimizing our internal bidding algorithms to maximize revenue -
    • Floor Price Optimization - Understanding the market demand-supply balance for optimal valuation of supply
    • Ad Delivery Optimization - Demand driven supply prioritization
    • Research - Expand our understanding of demand-supply economy

Your Responsibilities:

  • Collaborative Work
    • Work closely with our product, engineering, and sales teams to drive the use of Data Science across the Verve Group
    • Work closely with the data infrastructure and engineering teams to produce Data Science models and move into daily production pipelines
    • Ability to collaborate with teams across the globe in different time zones

    Research and Development
    • Develop various cutting edge machine learning and/or statistical techniques in many different areas in ad tech
    • Develop real-time algorithms for campaign and bidding optimization, and techniques to discover insights/patterns in mobile device location data
    • Develop methods to leverage/extract/process/analyze complex, high volume, high-dimensional datasets from both internal and external sources
    • Design experiments, A/B testing, evaluate the quality of derived assets, and develop dashboards to continuously monitor model performance

  • A degree in a relevant quantitative field (e.g. applied mathematics, statistics, engineering, computer science, physics, operations research, economics, behavioral sciences). Ph.D. strongly preferred
  • 3+ years of relevant work experience (preferably in advertising) is a must
  • Previous experience in at least two of the following areas: user profiling/classification, mobile/geospatial data, user valuation, time series forecasting, and state-space modeling
  • Strong experience in taking data science projects from concept to production in an industry setting
  • Fluent in statistical analysis, data mining, and machine learning
  • Ability to program proficiently in Python and SQL
  • Hands-on data engineering skills and big data processing experience
  • Enthusiasm for solving challenging problems and a willingness to learn and work in a team-oriented and constantly changing environment
Nice to have
  • Experience with technical tools e.g., CI/CD, Docker, Airflow, and/or Kubernetes for machine learning model deployment
