We have opportunities to assist with Epidemiology and Surveillance Team within the Public Health Response Branch (PHRB) based at St Leonards. The Epidemiology and Surveillance Team is responsible for a wide range of data management, data cleaning and preparation and reporting activities to support NSW’s public health response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

What will a COVID-19 Reporting Data Analyst be doing?
The COVID-19 Reporting Data Analyst is part of the Reporting & Analytics Team within the broader Epidemiology and Surveillance Team, Public Health Response Branch (PHRB) responding to the COVID-19 Pandemic.
The Reporting Data Analyst is responsible for analysis and enhancement of reporting data to provide high level and detailed daily, weekly and longer-term reports and visualisations. The Reporting Data Analyst will also respond to queries and information requests and other duties as required.
The Epidemiology and Surveillance Team operates over 7 days per week with two shift times. Currently, these are 8am - 4:30pm / 12:30pm - 9pm.
The COVID-19 Reporting Data Analysts are working on site with other COVID 19 Response Team members in 1 Reserve Road, St Leonards. Working from home arrangement is not applicable.
- Classification: Health Manager Level 1
- Salary range: $76,152.00 - $102,438.00, plus Superannuation

Key skills required
- Data analysis skills and experience.
- Experience with R or another data analysis platform such as Python or SAS.
- Proficiency in R preferred, including experience writing tests, source control and package development.
- Demonstrated high-level problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Demonstrated excellent communication skills.
- Knowledge and understanding of NSW Health policies, working process and guidelines.
- Previous experience in data management and statistical computing.
Key accountabilities of the role
- Provide support for users working with reporting extracts in other government areas.
- Liaise with data providers & subject matter experts to ensure correct translation between source data and stored data.
- Liaise with Surveillance Team to review recent data and evidence to inform data cleaning.
- Prepare data for state-wide reporting.
- Prepare visualisations for reporting team.
- Prepare Situation Reports, State level numbers and other data products on request.
- Improve code quality using best practice R development guidelines and source control management software.
- Provide timely answers to data-related questions from PHRB Senior Executive.
- Work under time pressure to tight deadlines.
- Evening and weekend work required.
- Work in a high pressure environment.
- Match technical feasibility of data analyses with operational requirements.

Are you currently a NSW Government employee?
Current NSW Health, NSW Ministry of Health and NSW Government staff, must have their manager’s approval prior to expressing interest.
This will be an off-payroll arrangement for current Public Sector Staff, your agency can invoice NSW Health for salary expenses.
The Epidemiology and Surveillance Team works on a shift work arrangement, you will be required to amend your working conditions to accommodate shift working.
