About The Role

We are opening this role for aspiring data scientists with strong interpersonal and technical skills who are eager to learn and broaden their knowledge and expertise within the fast growing field of data science, with a focus on Natural Language Processing. The position is part of our Contract Digital Transformation Programme, a large scale group-wide initiative that is transforming how Swiss Re managing contracts.

You will be part of the Tech delivery team, working directly with the Data Science lead, responsible for the methodology, development, validation and performance of all the modeling capabilities that the Contracts solution entails.

In Particular, The Role Will Involve

  • Applying state-of-the art statistical, machine learning and natural language processing methods shaping the future of contracting in reinsurance.

  • Developing and deploying scalable neural network models into production to answer advanced business problems.

  • Working closely with team members from other applied research teams on a variety of statistical, deep learning and NLP problems.

Key Tasks

  • Initiate, lead and drive machine learning projects from inception to completion with minimal guidance

  • Embrace the latest methodologies, models, and algorithms to generate business insight in a proactive way.

  • Ensure further development of Swiss Re's analytics capabilities in interplay with system engineers, solution architects and internal business experts.

Swiss Re Institute (SRI) is an important differentiating component of Swiss Re's strategy. SRI uses R&D to ensure company´s capabilities remain innovative, maintain underwriting excellence and incubate new business models, product and services. We build and deliver groundbreaking R&D and robust technological capabilities to generate data-driven insights on existing and new risk pools, and the economic context within which we operate.

While most of your peers and key partners are based in Zurich, your team is composed of an international workforce based in different locations and serving a global customer basis.

About You

  • Master's or Ph.D. in a quantitative subject area: e.g., computer science, statistics, applied mathematics, physics, engineering computational linguistics or similar field

  • Proven experience (industry or academic) in data science and advanced statistics

  • Track record in implementing NLP solutions based on traditional ML and latest deep learning pioneering models (attention, transformers, BERT, GPT)

  • Proficiency in Python and/or R, including the relevant statistical and machine learning packages (Scikit, NumPy).

  • Flair towards developing scalable data products using distributed data processing (Hadoop, Spark, Hive).

  • Solid Knowledge of deep learning and distributed computation frameworks (TensorFlow, PyTorch).

  • Experience with cloud computing services (Azure, AWS, Palantir, Databricks) is a big plus.

  • Familiar with DevOps and preferably MLOps.
