We are looking for a Member of Technical Staff to join Cloud Backend team to build solutions that will help us deliver an industry leading security product to our customers.

Join a talented team of developers using a wide variety of latest cloud technologies to solve big problems while partnering with threat researchers who are on the bleeding edge of malware analysis. You’ll build solutions that our customers are clamouring for, that will help our customers prevent the next front page security breach. We are involved in every aspect of the product development process, from early feature concept design, product development to testing and validation at customer sites.

Success in the Role:

What are the performance outcomes over the first 6-12 months you will work toward completing?

The following is a schedule for the first year of joining:

  • Within 15 days of employment, become competent with VMware’s rules, guidelines, and standard operating procedures. Go through the new hire orientation and trainings.
  • Within 1 month of employment, get hands-on with the product and its use-cases that we are building for application migration.
  • Within 3-6 months of employment, learn the product area assigned to you in detail, the technology stack in use, become familiar with the project and features in the assigned domain, and get accustomed to the code base, release cycles etc. Work towards becoming competent in coding and functional dev testing of the products feature.
  • Within 1 year of employment, contribute towards engineering design, coding, reviews, functional automation of dev test of the products feature.

The Work: What type of work will you be doing? What assignments, requirements, or skills will you be performing on a regular basis?

As a Member of Technical Staff, you will:

  • Work on Data Science research team with focus on building AI / ML models to help with revolutionizing and creating edge for the product.
  • Work on product features engineering design, coding, review, testing and automate the functional dev test.
  • Work across backend and frontend teams, infrastructure, and domain teams.
  • Work closely with a team of passionate people with a start-up mindset and who want to change the status quo.
  • Have a customer focus to ensure high quality solutions are delivered which meet the expectations of our customers and be able to work with other customer facing teams to ensure the highest levels of customer satisfaction.
  • Operate with a service ownership mindset to work in a DevOps mode where the dev team is responsible for all automation, quality, CI/CD, logging, and monitoring of services that are being built.

Required Qualifications

  • Excellent design and programming skills with a focus on enterprise software like Python / C++ / Java.
  • Should have acumen to understand the large set of data and make sense of it.
  • Should have good experience in writing complex SQL queries.
  • Excellent understanding of NLP. In depth understanding of ML algorithms – Supervised and Unsupervised.
  • Should have deep understanding of Clustering Algorithms.
  • Able to apply ML algorithms at large enterprise scale data. Ability to understand distributed systems and techniques.
  • Should have excellent experience in understanding requirements and applying appropriate data structures / algorithms and ML Models.
  • Hands-on experience in owning Quality end to end through automated Unit & Integration testing. Should be able to run Data Validation and model efficiency test.
  • Having excellent understanding of application of Design Principles to carve out Clean Code.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail.
  • Hard-working with a whatever it takes attitude.
  • Able to demonstrate effective teamwork both within the immediate team and across teams.
  • You have BE/MTech in Computer Science or an equivalent degree

Desired Qualifications

  • Familiarity in cloud technologies, microservices & cloud data stack and tools
  • Familiarity with any RDBMS and SQL
  • Have Knowledge of AWS
  • Have implemented machine learning/Deep learning at large scale
  • You have a collaborative approach and are self-motivated.
  • Have knowledge of or desire to learn cloud security.

What is the leadership like for this role? What is the structure and culture of the team like?

Carbon Black team came to VMware as an acquisition and the VMware AppDefense team was merged with it to build the VMware Carbon Black team in Pune. It is one of the fast paced, innovative teams in VMware. The team is built on trust and empathy, and we celebrate each other’s successes. Carbon Black (CB) is headed by Jason and Scott who are the GM’s of the group based out of US. The leadership of CB is based out of India, Bulgaria, Israel and US. As a part of this role, you will be joining the India team headed by Nandini De and working closely with Sekhar Josyoula who will be your reporting manager. The leadership encourages independent thinking and gives a free hand to innovate.

The team is distributed across the globe, in India and U.S. We have a diverse, inclusive, and open culture in the team. We encourage continuous learning, sharing of ideas and thoughts, and growing together as a team. The team consists of engineers, architects, UX designers and Product managers, with experience ranging from less than a year to more than 20 years.

Where is the role located?

Either of the following can be opted.

  • Office-location: Pune in India.
  • Flexible: The location of this role is flexible within Pune India. Work will be done from an office some days during a week and other days from a non-VMware building.
  • Remote: The location of this role is from anywhere in India. Work will be done from remote location most of the time, however, must work from office location for some time based on the requirement.
