Responsibilities include:

  • Learning the ins and outs of Vitol’s core seaborn operations, and coming up with creative ways to use data, automation, analytics, models, and optimization to improve those operations
  • Exploring new datasets and external-vendor predictions/algorithms, extracting insights, and visualizing the results with technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Close contact and iteration with domain experts to develop machine learning solutions that are understandable/usable by non-technical stakeholders
  • Liaising with central data science and IT to leverage existing tools and capabilities for the business

What you need to bring
  • Degree in computer science, data science, or equivalent experience
  • Coursework in math, statistics, and machine learning or equivalent experience
  • Extensive experience exploring and extracting insights from heterogeneous multi-dimensional data sets is a must
  • Fluency in Python (3) with the ability to write clean, modular, well-documented code in a collaborative development setting
  • Experience presenting complex data visually to a wide audience (via D3, bokeh, plotly, etc.)
  • 2-5 years in industry working as a data scientist on real-world data is preferred
  • C# development experience a plus
  • French language skills a plus (but not required)

Personal Characteristics
  • Experience working in an agile scrum development model
  • Entrepreneurial drive, ability to work independently as well as in a team
  • Proactive and user-focused “make it work” mentality with a genuine interest in the functional as well as technical aspects of each challenge encountered
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Full proficiency communicating in English in a business context (verbally & in writing)
  • Hunger to use data science and machine learning to disrupt a traditionally human-centric industry
  • Ability to derive, abstract and translate value from complex models in a commercial context
  • Resourceful and able to think creatively and adapt. A results-oriented individual who thrives working in a fast-paced environment
