Data Engineer II
Role description:
The Data Engineer II, within the Foundational Services team, you will work with a multidiscipline team to design and implement a data platform, revolutionizing how Mastercard can realize value from its extensive data asset pool.
The Foundational Services Team provides common and easy-to-use solutions for problems across the Mastercard's Data & Services organization. We work closely with market-facing product engineering teams take maximum advantage of these capabilities, evolving our data platform as the needs of our customers change.
Engineers work in small, flexible, and multidiscipline teams. Every team member contributes to designing, building, and testing features. There are no rigid organizational structures, and each team uses processes that work the best for that team members and projects. You will play a vital role within a rapidly growing organization, while working closely with experienced and driven engineers to solve challenging problems.
A Data Engineer II will:
  • Independently execute projects to obtain, process and distribute new data assets, including the design, implementation, automation, and maintenance of large-scale enterprise ETL processes
  • Develop repeatable and scalable code that processes data in an automated and efficient manner
  • Work closely with Software Engineers and Product managers to design and improve application design, data engineering tools and data resources
  • Leverage industry best practices including proper use of source control, code reviews, data validation and testing
  • Help build new data pipeline tools, addressing complex technical challenges and seamless communication with several cloud storage technologies
  • Suggest and implement new data processing strategies and approaches based on industry best practice
  • Be flexible to work with new technologies and processes while applying industry standard data engineering principles
  • Comply with and uphold all Mastercard internal policies and external regulations

Minimum job requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in a quantitative field (e.g., Computer Science, Statistics, Econometrics, Engineering, Mathematics, Operations Research). Master's degree preferred
  • Excellent English quantitative, technical, and communication (oral/written) skills; is an excellent listener
  • Expertise and hands-on experience with RDBMS technologies (we currently mostly use Microsoft SQL Server) and familiarity with .NET programming
  • Proficiency with at least one scripting language (Powershell, Python, .NET)
  • Demonstrated excellent skills in the ability to innovate, think critically and disaggregate problems. Able to provide oversight, validation, and quality control to the team’s work
  • Ability to work with multidiscipline teams, and experience working with Software Development Engineers to fulfil application requirements.
