We are looking for a Data Scientist to join our Business Analytics Team and help us turn data to valuable insights for the business .
We are an ambitious team and make use of a range of techniques including statistics, mathematics, machine learning, data mining and data visualisation to derive value from data. We use digital technology and cloud services to produce solutions that help our colleagues drive improvements in key business areas, such as asset management and leakage . We work closely with our stakeholders, through an agile process, to ensure that we solve the right problems and we deliver useful outcomes. The role will involve:
Manipulat e structured and unstructured data from multiple sources and build algorithms to turn these into meaningful information and insight . This includes tasks like data preparation , data mining and data merging.
Use statistical techniques , modelling , machine learni ng tools to provide solutions and drive value with analytics.
Propos e and undertak e innovative analysis to evolve the capability of existing analytical products ( e.g. processes, algorithms, predictive models, tools) or look for opportunities to derive new value with ana l ytics .
Translat e conclusions and outputs in a way that can be easily understood by others.
Work closely with a wide range of colleagues towards co-creating solutions that are tailored to specific data and business needs.
A proven ability to extract patterns, trends or models from real-world data sets.
Ability to work effectively within a team environment.
Strong communicat ion skills .
Degree in a numerate discipline such as Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science or an equivalent quantitative course .
P rogramming languages such as R, Python, MATLAB .
3+ years experience of applying a wide range of analytical techniques in a business setting or in a research-based role within a university or equivalent setting.
A proven ability to translate complex analytical outcomes into business intelligence that can be easily understood and used by others who have limited experience of analytical techniques.
Experience in parallelised processing, e.g. Spark, Hadoop.
Experience with the Microsoft Azure tool suite.
Experience of knowledge elicitation techniques and how to combine knowledge from multiple sources.
Experience of applying analytical techniques in the water industry.
Salary: £ 33,684 - £46,224 depending on experience
