This role will be part of a dedicated hybrid actuarial/data science team designing and delivering powerful analytical tools utilizing statistical modeling, machine learning, and big data platforms to enhance or overhaul core Actuarial processes. Our team is a cross-functional team of data scientists, data engineers, and actuaries working in a highly collaborative development environment which involves heavy interaction with and training of partner-customers in Actuarial. For this particular role, we are seeking a Data Scientist with experience in software engineering who can not only build models, but integrate these models into interactive applications and delivery pipelines for customer consumption.

We seek candidates with a strong foundation in statistical modeling and/or machine learning, data technologies, and software engineering who have a drive for finding efficient solutions to maximize business value. As this role will primarily involve consulting with peer groups across the organization, clear communication and excellent presentation skills are required. Our team culture prioritizes flexibility and tailored solutions, so an aptitude and desire to research state-of-the-industry solutions is a must, along with an aptitude to learn new tools and languages as necessary.

Responsibilities:

  • Build new models to solve business problems, generate insights, and enhance current processes in a consulting role across the Actuarial organization
  • Design, build, and test new functionality in our analytical web applications
  • Learn/bring best practices to guide the direction of our Data Science and Data Engineering workflows
  • Partner with customers and collaborate with both onshore & offshore developers to solve customer requests
  • Build efficient data and analytical processes to rapidly deliver analytical value
  • Support training, consulting, or statistical modeling efforts as needed / desired
  • Proactively accesses technical issues and risks that could impact speed, functionality, flexibility, or clarity
  • Identify opportunities to reuse strategic components and reduce system complexities
  • Train Actuarial partners to become eventual owners of models, processes, and delivery tools
  • Results driven with commitment to meeting deadlines
  • Attends to detail and manages multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • High level of independence, but is also a team player that demonstrates a high level of ownership

Qualifications


  • Master's Degree in Statistics, Computer Science, related field
  • Programming experience in R and/or Python required
  • Application programming experience in Shiny, Dash, Django, or other R/Python application frameworks is highly desired
  • Additional SQL, Spark, Hadoop, Java, or web programming experience is a plus
  • 1-3+ years of experience in the P&C insurance industry is a plus, but not required
