IBM Cloud and Cognitive Software is hiring a Data Scientist to join our Portfolio & Strategy team. In this role, you will partner closely with key leaders to unlock new understanding of IBM’s Cloud and Cognitive Software business. Be part of this growing team directly responsible for driving cross-functional initiatives for growth across IBM’s Software businesses. You will focus on wide ranging strategic initiatives from pricing strategy, investment strategy and optimization to linking next generation of innovations to business. If you enjoy delivering end-to-end solutions from technique selection to model training and results measurement and storytelling for operational data, then you will fit right in with our team.

What You'll Do...

  • Develop quantitative models leveraging machine learning and advanced statistical analysis techniques

  • Own the full Data Science life cycle from conception to prototyping, testing, deploying, and measuring its overall business value

  • Coordinate, prepare, launch, and assess live experiments to measure the incremental impact of your own work

  • Uncover deep insights hidden in our vast repository of raw data, and provide tactical guidance on how to act on findings

  • Drive adoption & utilization of your insights across the organization in ways that drive real business value

Required Technical and Professional Expertise


In addition to your written and verbal communication skills, you'll possess the following...

  • 3+ years of professional experience in a quantitative or technical work environment

  • Self-sufficiency in data analysis (such as R, Python, SQL, etc.)

  • You have deep understanding of a breadth of modeling techniques (e.g. regression models, causal inference in strategic decisions, multi-objective and multi-modal optimization, advanced Bayesian techniques)

  • You are a great storyteller and communicator and can build relationships with a diverse set of stakeholders.

  • Comfort with ambiguity & drive to proactively shape the next questions to ask & steps to take to add clarity and drive business forward


Preferred Technical and Professional Expertise

  • 4+ years' experience in a quantitative, data driven role in an enterprise scale software/technology company

  • PhD or Master's degree in a quantitative field (such as Data Science, mathematics, economics, computer science, statistics, econometrics, engineering, physics, neuroscience, operations research, etc.)
