Established in 2011 as a private SME, Laminaria is the inventor, owner and developer of its patented wave energy technology. The main focus of the company is to create innovative solutions that offer a higher return on investment and shows increased productivity and survivability compared to the leading technologies in the sector. Since its foundation, the company employed a combination of activities that prioritized experimental proof of concept, focusing its research and development efforts in rapid prototyping, wave tank testing and real in-sea validation of the predicted performance. Currently Laminaria is undertaking a project to test and demonstrate a commercial scale device at the challenging EMEC test site on Orkney.

The context

Are you ready to make the difference in the blue sector? Are you a raving fan of wave energy? Laminaria is looking for an experienced technical design engineer. As an engineer, you are the right hand of our CEO. You will be involved in the construction, monitoring, data analysis and follow-up of the entire project and will contribute to the success of the Laminaria Project

The Role

  • Generate concepts, conceptual and detail design, prototyping and testing of parts for the Laminaria
  • Create and check design documents in execution phase of the project, conform legislation and regulations, technical requirements and specifications to realize optimal design work;
  • Responsible to analyze the data received from the Wave Convertor
  • Manage progress and delivery of the Laminaria Project
  • Daily contact with suppliers on technical aspects
  • Right-hand man of the founder of the company

Key Requirements

  • Master degree or equivalent by experience
  • Believe in wave and tidal energy
  • 5+ years experience in the renewable energy/maritime sector
  • Knowledge of materials and manufacturing processes
  • Professional demeanor with the ability to work independently and as a team player
  • Strong focus on results with an entrepreneurial approach
  • Strong sense of personal and professional accountability
  • Experience with Solidworks/Inventor and mathlab/scilab/python
  • Desire to work in a dynamic, fast paced and ever changing environment
  • Problem solver by nature
  • Your English is fluent


  • The position will be based in Orkney (Scotland) for the next 1,5 years.
