As a Data Scientist, you’ll play a key role in Pacific Life’s growth and long-term success. This role will be within the newly formed Advanced Analytics team and report to the AVP – Advanced Analytics. You’ll develop the advanced models, dashboards, and reporting that will enhance business decisions in LID, and promote best practices in analytics projects throughout LID.
While working closely with the Advanced Analytics team and the broader Product Innovation & Strategy team, you’ll ensure maximum business impact while creating advanced data models and analysis for to guide strategic decisions. What You’ll Do
Create advanced data models and high-quality analysis for all aspects of our business to discover insights, drive outcomes, actionable recommendations and innovation to guide strategic decisions
Partner with analysts throughout LID to support the use of advanced analytics and promote best practices
Build, develop and maintain data models, reporting systems, data automation systems, dashboards and performance metrics that support and inform key business decisions
Oversee the design and delivery of reports and insights that analyze business functions and key operations and performance metrics
Communicate results and business impacts of insight initiatives to stakeholders within and outside of the Division
Tech & Tools You’ll Use
Machine learning/cloud-based libraries (e.g., TensorFlow, Microsoft Cognitive Toolkit, Kraken, Theano, NumPy, SciPy), programming languages and statistical packages such as SQL, R, Python, SAS (code statements, models and macros), tools such as Alteryx and Data Robot, and data visualization tools such as Tableau C++ and Java; big data tools (e.g. Teradata, Aster, Hadoop, Spark)
Factors for Success
5+ years’ experience with data science and advanced analytics with proven record for delivery of data-driven insights to inform strategic decision making
BS in data science, advanced analytics or quantitative discipline such as Statistics, Math or Engineering, or equivalent industry experience
Solid business acumen to put analytics in the appropriate context while identifying key metrics that measure and drive long term growth
Experience with data mining and pre-processing principles and collecting data from multiple data systems, classification, mapping, and structuring/staging
Demonstrated familiarity with machine/deep learning algorithms and techniques to support primarily supervised and reinforcement learning such as association rule learning, Bayesian networks, clustering, decision tree learning, gradient boosting, genetic algorithms, learning classifier systems, and support vector machinesExperience and knowledge of statistical modeling techniques:
GLM multiple regression, logistic regression, log-linear regression, variable selection, etc.
Understanding of and experience using analytical concepts and statistical techniques: hypothesis development, designing tests/experiments, analyzing data, drawing conclusions, and developing actionable recommendations for business units
Excellent communication, collaboration and delegation skills with demonstrated ability with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
Proven presentation skills, executive presence, and managerial courage to speak at all levels within the organization
