Data Engineer

You’ll be working to deliver intricate data engineering workflows and insightful data analysis on a range of complex research processes, working closely with our researchers, projects managers and data scientists.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Design, plan and build new data pipelines and data processing workflows following best practises based on our client’s needs.
  • Update and improve existing workflows with the latest technologies to ensure we are providing the best solutions to our clients.
  • Delivered data products and services for use within public or private sector.
  • Analyse and assess data quality including data quality management i.e. profiling, cleansing, deduplication and matching of datasets to inform direction of where effort can be focussed to improve processes.
  • Interpret the technical requirements of our clients to support project managers in bidding and planning projects.
  • Present key technical findings and potential routes forward to clients.
  • Mentor and support the development of junior data engineers within the team.


Key Skills/Experiences:

  • Excellent knowledge of Informatica DEI (or Powercentre or BDM), Azure SQL, Python and the supporting data engineering and analytical libraries available.
  • Experience with Databricks and distributed data processing utilising Pyspark.
  • Strong knowledge of SQL and associated tools.
  • Created databases or data lakes with appropriate schemas for use for insight reporting or analytical modelling.
  • Experience with Azure Data Factory and/or other similar services available from the major cloud platform providers (Azure, AWS, GCP).
  • Experience of working in Azure is a must and use of appropriate technologies.
  • Use of Azure DevOps for sprint planning and tasks and also code repositories.
  • Worked with DevOps teams on CI/CD and automated testing frameworks.
  • Clear understanding of Agile working practices and a sprint-based development cycle.
  • Confidence in discussing complex technical processes with key stakeholders.
  • Experience in presenting technical outputs to range of audiences with varying technical capabilities.
  • Experience with a range of database technologies including data lakes such as Azure SQL or SQL Server, PostgreSQL, Snowflake, MySQL, Cosmos DB or Mongo DB.
