Performs work in IS in some or all of the following Engineering specialties: Systems, Cloud, Data and Software. Has deep technical skills with multiple technologies. Applies advanced skills within progressively widening scope. Maintains knowledge of business processes, emerging technologies and industry trends. Is guided by industry standards such as SWEBOK, DMBOK and industry best practices.

The recommendations and decisions made in this position can have significant impact on Enterprise measures and operations, including but not limited to finances, business/IS capabilities, and direct impact to our customer experience and service. Extensively involved or may lead strategic and tactical engineering and architectural activities of a team or car on an Agile Release Train (ART), with primary involvement and focus on engineering. Operates at an advanced technical level. Develops knowledge of multiple technologies and emerging technologies to support strategic initiatives.


WHAT YOU’LL DO:

  • Uses models as a starting point for designing and developing technologies across multiple teams that enable new, or enhance existing, business capabilities.
  • Evaluates options; performs tradeoff and cost benefit analyses for multiple teams.
  • Works quantitatively; sets the standards for their area while cultivating partnerships with Enterprise partners like; data science, architecture, governance, infrastructure, and security.
  • Emphasizes and leads the use of a disciplined process when creating and implementing designs and operates effectively as part of multiple teams in doing so.
  • Can play multiple roles for multiple teams (e.g. individual contributor, lead, teacher, mentor).
  • Via professional societies, advances the development and validation of principles, standards, and best practices. Contributes to creating new, or updating existing, principles, standards and best practices.
  • Leads in software development lifecycle and DevOps practices.
  • Understands and experiments with multiple emerging technologies and applications supporting business partner / Mutual of Omaha’s business strategy.
  • Collaborates across teams to uncover pain points and formulate ways to accelerate delivery.
  • Translates business/user requirements into technical requirements, and applies creative problem solving that brings these requirements to fruition for multiple teams.
  • Researches, designs, builds, optimizes and maintains reliable, efficient and accessible data systems, data pipelines, machine learning pipelines, and/or models. Provides expert support of the analytic and/or operational use of data, often for teams or ARTS.
  • Maintains a mid-range view of data industry trends and technologies.
  • Is extensively involved in the strategic, tactical and architectural data activities and planning for a team or Agile Release Train to define standards and optimize production environments and practices.
  • Translates business needs into data architecture solutions, designing and implementing in production environments within supported data systems and influencing changes within connected data systems.
  • Implements data orchestration pipelines, data sourcing, cleansing, augmentation and quality control processes within supported data systems and influence changes within connected data systems.
  • Designs, develops, tests and integrates new data features and functionality as defined by the product owners and business teams and negotiates alterations that could improve results.


ABOUT YOU:

  • Expert in production data pipeline development, automation, and implementation over the last eight or more years with:
    • AWS Tech Stack - S3, Lake Formation, Glue, Athena
      • IAM, Experience in handling XML, JSON would be a plus
    • Snowflake Data Platform
    • DevOps, Continuous Integration and Delivery experience
    • Programming Languages commonly used in data engineering such as
      • Python (in AWS)
      • Spark (in AWS)
      • TypeScript
      • SQL
      • Scripting (Unix/Windows)
      • Informatica
    • Collaborating with numerous enterprise partners aligned to data science, architecture, governance, infrastructure, and security to apply standards and optimize production environments and practices
    • Has experience with moving from Informatica/Teradata on prem to AWS Cloud environment.
    • Collaborates with business owners to optimize data collection, storage and usage to maximize the value of information within supported systems
    • Implements data pipelines, data sourcing, cleansing, augmentation and quality control processes within supported data systems

VALUABLE EXPERIENCE:

  • AWS Data Lake, AWS streaming data and Data Vault architectural experience is a plus
  • Expert experience in traditional data technologies/methodologies (RDBMS, SQL, ETL/ELT, Data Modeling, Orchestrating data extraction and loading)
  • Expert experience in analyzing data systems for grain, relationship, context, and impact to connected systems, to develop optimal pipelines that meet functional business requirements.
  • Expert experience developing and documenting technology recommendations, vendor assessments, and designing complex data system interdependencies
  • Able to maintain data quality through systematic approaches and methodologies (e.g. MDM) within supported data systems
  • Health industry knowledge
