Senior Data Engineer

This is a full time telework position.

To thrive as a technical specialist, you will have significant software engineering experience and be a capable technical leader. You are comfortable and confident directing, mentoring and assisting fellow data engineers. You learn complex, new technologies quickly. You excel at using data/software engineering patterns in Cloud and Parallel Computing to identify, understand and solve engineering challenges. You can work with other technical specialists to design, build and maintain Clinical Data Pipelines.

Core technical capabilities:

• Must have strong Software or Data Engineering background (Java preferred)
• Must be a capable technical leader and avid learner

Expertise in at least two of the following areas, with the ability to skill up quickly in the others::

• Moving data between systems (general ETL experience)
• Building Cloud Native Data Pipelines (Cloud Dataflow/Apache Beam preferred)
• Populating, maintaining or consuming interoperable data (HL7 FHIR preferred)
• Writing BigData ETL/MR jobs (Spark, Scala, SQL preferred)
• Writing data specifications
• Building Cloud Native Data Ecosystems (Google Cloud preferred)

Experience with one or more of the following::

• Standardized, interoperable data (HL7 FHIR strongly preferred)
• Clinical data (HL7v2/FHIR R4 preferred)
• Relational databases (general ETL/SQL)s

Experience working with HL7 FHIR or Google Cloud are strongly considered, but can be learned on the job. The candidate will assist in developing strategy and roadmap for Interoperability capability including: FHIR, FHIR for analytics, bulk data, Partner to Partner Exchange including CARIN & TEFCA.
The successful candidate will produce and maintain documentation such as clinical data mapping specifications, systems requirements, designs, resource inventories and plans as requested. Participation in a 24/7 on-call support rotation may be required. Bachelor’s degree and 5 years’ experience including 3 years’ of demonstrated technical experience and 1 year of demonstrated leadership experience;

Or, Associate’s degree and 9 years’ experience including 3 years’ of demonstrated technical experience and 1 year of demonstrated leadership experience.

Demonstrated ability in solving complex technical problems with multiple computing technologies.

Experience working in healthcare technology.

Exposure to managing both custom developed and vendor-supplied applications.

Masters degree in applicable field preferred.
