Associate Data Scientist - AI Labs

Create and productionise Data Science capability to drive business outcomes.

The Data and Decision Science team is accountable for the development of a customer centric approach for managing and deepening customer relationships.

The AI Labs team is CBA’s frontline in the AI revolution.

The team comprises of data scientists with broad range of Data Science and Machine Learning Engineering skills who use advanced techniques such as Deep Learning (GPU accelerated), NLP, as well as other predictive modelling methods to identify business opportunities from a variety of data sources

What you will do:

Work with the Data Science Senior Manager to create robust Data Science Capabilities that are easily accessible to potential users within the Group, in order to drive value-add opportunities for our stakeholders

More specifically:

  • Create and productionise robust Data Science capabilities
  • Execute specifics tasks within a specific problem/project, under the guidance of a data scientist or the senior manager
  • Understand modelling pipeline and leverage AutoML to drive business outcomes
  • Become the SME in the team for model productionisation and execution
  • Manage stakeholder relationships (with support from team members) to identify opportunities to embed data science into their business
  • Become an ambassador of a positive team culture

This is a perfect opportunity for Software Engineers to have more exposure in the world of Data Science and Machine Learning. Our ideal candidate should be proficient in Python; have some experience of big data platform, techniques and practices such as Docker, Hadoop etc.; and have previously built and deployed machine learning applications or data products. Prior knowledge of model building and machine learning technique is a bonus and some basic Linux shell script knowledge is preferred. You should have good communication skills and ideally a degree in engineering or quantitative discipline.


You are analytical, strategic, and a forward thinking creative-problem solver, highly capable of working proactively within a team, leading by example, managing multiple projects simultaneously while navigating through ambiguity.

You look beyond the status quo to try new approaches and tools, thereby lifting the overall capability of the team.
