About the role:
The ASRS stream is responsible for the bots and grid that form the core of our automated warehouses. We continuously capture data from thousands of bots across the world, and accessing and understanding this data is critical to being able to operate them efficiently and economically, as well as driving future design improvements. The data that you manage will be used for a wide range of initiatives, from improving wireless connectivity through simulation to evolving our maintenance approaches, and you will see those projects directly make an impact.
The Senior Data Engineer’s role is to ensure that we have data in the right format and the right places with the right tools to provide a compelling competitive advantage for Ocado Technology: Role and responsibilities include:
Supporting the creation of the Data Engineering vision for ASRS
Building and enhancing the data model for automation within our Customer Fulfilment Centres, in close collaboration with the stream’s Data Analysts
Building automated and reliable production pipelines providing data we can trust
Create the support process for production pipelines
Work collaboratively with Product Analysts, Data Scientists, Product Managers and Software Engineers to understand data requirements
Continuously review the processes, governance and technology used to manage data from source applications/services to end consumers
Define best practices in data engineering and support Software Engineers across the stream in developing good quality data feeds
What we're looking for:
Experience with data engineering and data modelling across multiple complex domains
Ability to code in Python or Java
Have expert knowledge of SQL
Know the latest data tooling in the cloud space (ideally GCP)
Are comfortable getting hands on with data technologies
Have experience with agile planning and delivery
Can thrive in ambiguous environments where success often depends more on the ability to influence and ownership isn’t always 100% clear
Bonus points if you also have experience in some or all of the following areas (in no particular order):
dbt and Looker
DataOps
Data Observability
Defining and measuring data quality
