About the Role
You are an engineer who has particularly strong skills with all forms of cloud storage, whether it's managing data in a data lake (Azure Storage), to relational databases, or various forms of non-relational data (e.g. Cosmos DB). You understand how to migrate database schemas and data with automation, and you are comfortable defining data access and data governance best practices. You are adept at building reliable ETL pipelines using tools like Azure Data Factory or Databricks to move and transform data for multiple uses. You keep on top of developments in storage offerings and ensure that data scientists and platform engineers have data stores which are well-managed to use and maximize productivity.
Your responsibilities include:
Provisioning and managing various storage resources with automation
Build and integrate highly scalable and robust data processing pipelines
Managing big data workloads
Perform data collection, data cleansing and integration and data retrieval
Managing RBAC and ACL to these resources in a compliant and secure way
Designing and implementing a backup and restore strategy
Designing a schema and versioning concept for non-relational data stores
Defining compression techniques (Parquet/Avro etc)
Developing a data catalog and working with data ontologies
Documenting and ensuring all teams follow set standards
Optimizing read access of data
Operationalization of jobs including failures and retries

Proven data engineering experience with previous work and references
Minimum of 7 years as a data engineer
Constant learner who keeps on top of industry trends
Strong Azure knowledge
Good programming skills (SQL, Cosmos DB apis, yaml)
Spark (Preferred using Python)
C# .NET a plus
Self-motivated and good communication skills
Proficient in English
