REM Banding: From $105,000 to $125,000 / Annum (plus super)

Depending on qualifications, skills and experience.


About the Role:

Are you passionate about leveraging data science and bioinformatics to unlock meaningful insights from complex genomic and microbial ecology data? As a Data Scientist at Microba, you will play a pivotal role in developing, validating, and applying data analysis methods to extract critical information from large-scale, multidimensional datasets. This role combines cutting-edge data science techniques, bioinformatics, machine learning, and software development to enhance Microba's product offerings and scientific interpretation.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement data analysis methods to interpret complex genomic and microbial data.
  • Apply machine learning techniques to enhance data analysis and bioinformatics pipelines.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including engineering, lab operations, and cloud infrastructure, to integrate automated data analysis pipelines using cloud-based and containerisation technologies (e.g., Docker).
  • Conduct bioinformatics analysis, manage data repositories, and develop software tools to streamline data processing.
  • Stay current with advancements in bioinformatics, machine learning, and data science to introduce innovative solutions.
  • Ensure data quality, security, and compliance with industry standards, including ISO certification and GDPR.


What You’ll Need:


  • Bachelor’s Degree in Bioinformatics, Data Science, Computational Biology, or related field (Master’s preferred).
  • 4+ years of experience in data science, bioinformatics, or computational biology.
  • Strong expertise in statistical analysis and machine learning, particularly in Python, R, and data science libraries (e.g., TensorFlow, Pandas).
  • Proven experience with workflow automation, cloud computing (AWS/GCP), and containerisation (e.g., Docker).
  • Ability to collaborate effectively across teams and present complex findings to technical and non-technical audiences.


Preferred:

  • Experience in biological sciences, especially genomics or microbial ecology.
  • Skills in cloud-based AI/ML services and laboratory techniques such as DNA sequencing.
