We are recruiting a Senior Data Engineer to join the Imperial Clinical Analytics, Research & Evaluation (iCARE) team. As part of the iCARE NHS team you will directly contribute to the delivery of a translational portfolio of projects within the Digital Health theme of the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) Imperial Biomedical Research Centre, a £95 million translational research initiative for new treatments, diagnostics and technologies that benefit patients and communities locally and internationally.


In this role you will play an integral part in the further evolution of the Imperial Biomedical Research Centre’s NHS Secure Data Environment, working in our iCARE NHS data engineering unit you will support the delivery and curation of healthcare and other data to support an exciting and innovate programme of work aiming to improve direct patient care, optimise operational decision making and provide a delivery platform for a huge volume of advanced digital research.


You be based in our brand new Digital Collaboration Space at St Mary’s hospital, working with our multidisciplinary iCARE team which includes world class clinicians, data scientists, researchers, data engineers and informaticans to address priorities to respond to the needs and preferences of our patients, staff and local community towards social purpose and care equity during the ongoing digital transformation of the NHS.


You will be a driven and motivated data engineer / developer looking for a rewarding and challenging position within a team of world class data engineers and data scientists. You will have experience of working with NHS or Health data, ideally in a hospital setting, and understand how to manage and process these data to enable advanced analytics and research. You will understand health data quality issues and work with clinicians to curate data to meet user requirements that support direct care delivery, improvements in care quality and lead to millions of pounds in research funding.


You will have highly advanced technical skills building, working in and managing large health databases/warehouses. You will have good understanding of coding best practices and experience with code including versioning, error handling, logging, monitoring, validation and alerting. You will be a highly advanced user of SQL Server or SSIS or Snowflake, ideally with a good working knowledge of ADF and DBT. You use these skills to work in our cutting edge team to develop and support highly complex ETL and ELT processes using DevOps to manage curation of data and data models in our Azure based Secure Data Environment. You will be willing to learn about and use novel data types and have a good programming background (ideally python/java etc) that you will use to support advanced data analytics, machine learning and AI use cases using our highly granular and unique datasets.
