We are looking for a Data Scientist (f/m/d) to join our Future Lab team in Munich.


At E.ON’s Future Lab, we develop and incubate innovation and intellectual property from emerging digital technologies that enable a sustainable energy future. With a multidisciplinary team consisting of experts in the areas of Energy-, Electronics- and Electrical Engineering, Computer- and Data Science, as well as Digital Innovation Management, we discover radical, technology-oriented innovation opportunities, transform them into viable use cases, test them via prototypes and MVPs (both software and hardware); and eventually reintegrate them into the business or spin them off for external commercialization.

Your Responsibilities

  • Identify, analyze, and translate business needs into conceptual, logical, and physical data models
  • Translate academic papers into code and adapt state-of-the-art ML/AI models for energy-related use cases
  • Support the development, implementation and deployment of state-of-the-art ML/AI models and technologies in digital pipelines together with IoT, Data and ML Engineers
  • Building training pipelines and real-time inference run-times (PyTorch, TensorFlow, TensorRT, Python)
  • Analyze data using advanced analytics techniques in support of process improvement efforts using modern analytics frameworks, including but not limited to: Python, R, Scala, or equivalent; Spark; Hadoop file system; GPU-based computing systems
  • Work in a cross-functional team, communicate effectively technical requirements and inter-dependencies across engineering disciplines
  • Contribute to team effort of venturing innovative R&D projects, from ideation through prototyping, testing and business integration
  • Act as the interface to business stakeholders, the digital technology organization and service providers
  • Keep yourself ahead of emerging technologies, state of the art components and best practices to include in new designs, especially in the field of Deep Learning and AI


Your Profile

  • Higher university degree in computer science, physics, mathematics or equivalent
  • Strong programming skills, especially Python, C++ is a plus
  • Experience with data science tool and libraries: NumPy, SciPy, Matplotlib, Scikit-learn, PyTorch (or equivalent), Jupyter Notebooks, Bash scripting, Linux environment
  • Experience in working with relational databases (e.g., SQL, PostgreSQL) and Docker
  • Several years of hands-on experience in statistical data analysis and machine learning on large datasets; strong knowledge of the mathematical foundations of statistical inference and forecasting such as time series analysis, multivariate analysis, cluster analysis, and optimization
  • Deep expertise in energy industry with multiple years of experience, and understanding of legacy system including but not limited to GIS, SCADA, etc.
  • Hands-on experience with MS Azure (e.g., Azure ML, Data Factory) and streaming (e.g., Kafka) is a plus
  • Track record of business and venture building in the energy industry is a plus
  • Ability to work on projects that deal with rapid development cycles and unexpected changes in scope or parameters, still meeting deadlines and quality requirements
  • Outstanding communication skills with the ability to communicate complex technical ideas, regardless of the technical capacity of the audience
  • Understand interdependencies between technology, operations and business needs
  • Fluent in English, German is a plus
