Job description

An opportunity exists for a Data Scientist to join a growing team responsible for using hybrid machine-human systems to collect and enhance data about global security, political and economic risks and use that to power a range of innovative predictive applications. This is a technical role to help develop and optimize pipelines and processes for the efficient and accurate collection and enrichment of event data, and the exploitation of that data in predictive risk models.

As a Data Scientist, you will:

  • Work closely with our data engineering team to help specify, develop and maintain data pipelines to ingest and structure a range of structured and unstructured datasets.
  • Develop and maintain client-facing and internal dashboards built on top of those pipelines, primarily using PowerBI.
  • Develop innovative predictive models fusing data and structured expert judgement to quantify risks related to geopolitics, conflict, crime, economics, cyber risk etc.
  • Use NLP/ML extensively, primarily using the outputs from NLP as as an input to analytical models.
  • Connect the outputs from such risk models to customer assets, exposures, projects and investments globally.
  • Monitor, analyse and communicate the performance of machines and human teams to quantify and help optimize performance of our systems.
  • Develop an understanding and knowledge of;
    • The structure and value of our unique proprietary datasets on global political, security and economics, part of 1500+ datasets from across financials, energy, automotive, and maritime
    • Practical risk and intelligence problems and processes from clients in insurance, tech, natural resources, finance and government.
    • Working as part of a multidisciplinary global team of industry, country and technical experts.

As a Data Scientist, you will be expected to have:

  • Bachelor’s degree and relevant working experience, or a Master’s or higher degree, in a relevant field of study (Statistics, Mathematics, Economics, Computer Science, Data Science, Physics, Operations Research, Computational Biology etc.) with a strong quantitative component
  • At least two years of professional experience of the full modeling process – requirements, design, wrangle, train, test, deploy, communicate
  • Substantial experience with one or more programming/scripting languages (e.g. Python, R).
  • Substantial experience with relational databases and SQL
  • Demonstrated mastery of verbal and written English

Experience In The Following Is Also Helpful:

  • Graph databases
  • Cloud technologies; AWS or Azure.
  • CI/CD pipelines
  • Working with APIs / dealing with JSON
  • Geospatial data and messy unstructured / semi-structured data
  • Natural Language Processing and Machine Learning
  • Communicating findings of data analysis (e.g. with matplotlib, plotly, ggplot, Tableau, PowerBI)
