Serving a population of over 500 employees that are located across the country, the USC Suzanne Dworak-Peck School of Social Work, Division of Research is seeking a Research Data Analyst that is dependable, has a strong work ethic, and excellent organization skills to join their team.

This Research Data Analyst Role is responsible for assisting in the management and maintenance of datasets; working with investigators to understand research questions and formulate hypotheses accordingly; developing syntax/code to analyze the data properly; and analyzing the data. The Research Data Analyst interprets the results of the statistical analyses and prepares reports, publications, and presentations. This position is responsible for assisting the Principal Investigators (PIs) in grant proposal preparation, writing code, and designing a comprehensive quality assurance and validation process for study data. They will be working within a lab, where they will need to work successfully both independently and within a team.

Specific responsibilities of the Research Data Analyst include:

  • Meets with researchers and investigators to accurately develop hypotheses, codes/syntax for analyses, and results for the proposed research questions. Recommends statistical techniques for data analysis.
  • Runs standard statistical analysis software, as directed. Develops graphs and charts for data or results presentation.
  • Interprets and analyzes the results of the statistical analyses. Prepares and disseminates project/study summaries and reports, as required (i.e., abstracts, manuscripts, presentations).
  • Prepares reports, publications, and presentations for academic and non-academic audiences.
  • Assists the Principal Investigator (PI) in grant proposal preparation by providing input on study design, sample size calculations, and development of analysis.
  • Writes the programming code to accomplish the statistical analysis.
  • Is familiar with, and can analyze data using SPSS (required), Stata, and/or Mplus.
  • Is familiar with statistical analyses, such as: t-tests; ANOVAs; bivariate and multivariate linear and logistic regressions; moderation and mediation analyses.
  • Designs and oversees data collection and entry processes. Resolves problems, answers questions, and provides information to facilitate processes. Uses SPSS as directed.
  • Assists in data collection, creation and maintenance of databases, inputting data, developing methods of extracting data in requested formats, and generating reports.
  • Stays current with pertinent literature and developments in the field.
  • Other tasks as assigned by supervisor.

This position is remote and can be accessed from anywhere in the United States. Frequent phone calls, video meetings, and other consistent communication with the study team during normal business hours (8 AM – 5 PM PST) will be required for this position.

Required Education and Experience:

  • Master’s degree
  • Minimum 1 year experience, preferred 2 years experience
  • Experience in Biostatistics, Statistics, Psychology, Social Work, or related field.
  • Experience with SPSS (required)
  • Experience with Mplus (preferred) and Stata

A strong candidate will have strong skills in statistics with the ability to perform several types of analyses in SPSS. This person will be dependable, efficient, a self-starter, a problem-solver, and be able to work both independently and with a team with deadline pressures.

This is for a fixed-term, full -time position offered at 100% effort from start date to 5/31/2022.
