Senior Data Scientist Sustainability driven to find innovative IT-solutions

You and your job
As a Senior member of the Data Science team of RaboResearch your focus will primarily, but not exclusively, be on topics related to climate change, sustainability, and Food & Agri Economics. This includes carbon footprint (forecasting), sustainability analysis based on large datasets and developing client tools, such as sustainability benchmarks.

Practical examples

  • You will work on projects such as real-time estimates of consumer expenditure in the Netherlands during Covid-19 lockdowns, based on bank transaction data, and investigating the potential damage to Dutch house foundations resulting from climate change and the data to produce our Climate Impact Report 2021
  • You will develop, maintain, and help improve unique data sets, models, and tools in an Azure Cloud environment to support stakeholders and clients. A central part of this environment is a data layer in which we ingest, standardize, and combine hundreds of external data sources.

Top 3 responsibilities

  • You will develop geospatial data processing pipelines to assess the probability and impact of natural hazards under different climate scenarios and on environmental risk such as on biodiversity
  • You will define business needs regarding our technical environment, setup, and tech-stack and evaluate proposed solutions
  • Work closely together with subject-matter experts in sustainability and (Food & Ag) Economics and present analyses to internal and external stakeholders. You will respond to information requests and research global and regional sustainability questions in collaboration with the global RaboResearch department

You and your talent

  • You have a Master’s degree or PhD in Data Science or relevant quantitative discipline
  • You have over 5-10 years of working experience in a relevant area
  • Modelling experience in real-life business settings with traditional and algorithmic (machine learning/Bayesian) approaches
  • Strong hands-on programming skills (preferably with Python) and experience in deploying models
  • Coach other team members in further development of their technical skills
  • Fluent in English, both verbally and in writing. Proficiency in Dutch, Portuguese or Spanish is considered an advantage

At least some of the following:

  • Hands on experience with developing and implementing sustainability related model in (Azure) cloud environment
  • Hard skills: Python, Spark, SQL, DataBricks, geographical data & tools, (Azure) Cloud, PowerBI
  • Full-stack and Azure Cloud Engineering experience
  • Experience in geospatial data analysis (with GeoPandas & NETCDF)
  • Experience in big data analytics, including working with SQL and Spark Business consultant / stakeholder communication

This is what we offer you

  • a gross salary up to € 7.000,-
  • thirteenth month's salary and 8% holiday allowance
  • an extra budget of 10% of your gross salary to be used at your discretion. Buy extra holiday hours, add more to your pension savings or ask for part of the extra budget to be paid out
  • a pension scheme to which you contribute 3.5%
