Seeking a Data Analyst to engage in very complex problem solving and issues management within the risk functions. The position will exercise sound decision-making and judgement to produce high level policy advice and operational support.

About The Project

The position is required to assume responsibility to undertake detailed or sensitive projects that may include performing varied activities involving many different and unrelated processes or methods that may impact on the strategic or operational outcomes that support the departments objectives to “build a world-leading Insurance Scheme”.

The EL1 Data Analyst is responsible for actively managing key internal and external stakeholder relationships and where required to represent and negotiate on behalf of the department to advance the interests across a range of forums.

Responsibilities of the role include but are not limited to:
  • Undertaking day-to-day analytical work and project management on a range of tasks including regular and one-off analyses and ad hoc requests.
  • Maintaining knowledge in understanding business areas with regard to business context, goals and key performance indicators.
  • Contributing to the development of reporting, assisting in the establishment of quality assurance and governance processes around all Chief Risk Office (CRO) reporting.
  • Analysing data, interpreting trends, utilising problem solving, and connecting analysis and insights to address problems and questions.
  • Collaborating with key staff within the CRO and across the Agency to ensure consistent use of data and reporting and internal/external messaging.
  • Presenting the outcomes of work undertaken and tailoring to context across various forums.
  • Monitoring and development of a small group of less experienced team members in the Monitoring Team.

Initial contract duration -

18 months with possible 18 months extension options

Working arrangements

Subject to negations with line manager, hybrid working arrangements in line with current policy are available (minimum of 3 days each week in the office, with flexible arrangements in place for the remaining 2 days

Security clearance

Must be an Australian Citizen, also Pre-engagement Checks will be undertaken by the department and commencement is subject to the Specified Personnel meeting the standard in relation to the Pre-Engagement Check requirements.

Essential Criteria
  • Experience with complex data analysis
  • Experience using SAS. Teradata and other data analysis tools
  • Exposure to tool development and automation with Microsoft Excel. Access and VBA
  • A sound understanding of compliance and fraud detection practices
  • A sound understanding of the role and responsibilities of the Agency
  • strong understanding of data preparation and analysis
