    The Nursing, Maternity and Early Years Directorate’s takes an integrated approach to promoting and protecting health and wellbeing, preventing ill health, and reducing health inequalities. We do this by:

    • Working at local, national and international level to provide system leadership, and to protect and improve health and wellbeing

    • Building partnerships with and engaging a wide range of stakeholders to help address health inequalities and influence the factors that affect the public’s health.

    • Working with partners to inform, educate, and empower professionals to support communities and individuals, especially those in greatest need, to take more control of their health and the things that affect their health

    • Working across the public health system to support delivery and develop a robust public health workforce that is knowledgeable, capable, and effective at improving health, promoting wellness, preventing ill health and tackling health inequalities.

    • Leading on quality and clinical governance across the organisation, to support continuous quality improvement.

    The Family Nurse Partnership (FNP) National Unit, based in the Nursing, Maternity and Early Years Directorate, provides strategic leadership for the FNP programme in England.

    Responsibilities

    This is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and experienced data scientist to join the Family Nurse Partnership (FNP) National Unit to help support the effective delivery of the FNP programme in England.

    FNP is an internationally recognised home visiting programme which is delivered by specially trained nurses to first time young mothers and their babies. It has been developed through more than 40 years of research in the United States and demonstrably improves health, social and educational outcomes. The FNP National Unit leads the national delivery and strategic oversight of FNP in England.

    The Data Scientist plays a key role in FNP National Unit by working closely with clinical colleagues to identify opportunities for quality improvement while leveraging data value. In this role, you will design and develop efficient and robust data processing pipelines transforming raw data, often from multiple sources into reliable summary statistics in line with best standards in the field. The role requires well developed programming and statistical analysis skills and working collaboratively with a variety of stakeholders and partners.
