Marine Data Analyst

Our client in Ispra, Italy is one of the biggest science hubs in Europe. It employs approximately 3.000 top-notch researchers, engineers and scientists eager to resolve challenges and provide knowledge in order to support EU policies in a variety of areas from agriculture and food security, to environment and climate change, as well as nuclear safety, security and growth.

At the moment, they are looking for a Marine Data Analyst to support the ongoing implementation process of the Marine Strategy Framework Directive (MSFD) in the European sea regions. The selected person will be:

  • Designing and developing a web-space including a WIKI and a GIS analysis and visualisation tools
  • Maintaining and managing the above platform.
  • Drafting of final report summarizing methodology and results of the work carried out
  • Platform designing, including individual components
  • Wiki development, road-testing deployment
  • GIS component development, data analysis testing, deployment
  • Participating to meetings with relevant platform stakeholders
  • Producing documentation/final report
  • Minimum of 5 years of higher education and minimum 5 years of professional experience
  • Minimum 5 years of management and processing of marine data and development of marine data assessment tools
  • Good knowledge in design and testing of web-spaces and related tools (with a strong focus on marine information)
  • Proficiency with GIS
  • Proficiency with the design and management of collaborative spaces (wiki)
  • Good capacity in data analysis and management requirements (including proficient knowledge of SPSS, R, PRIMER/ MDS, PCO, PCA, distLM/Python)
  • Statistical analysis and strong analytical skills, including data-mining, to extract and analyse biodiversity information for monitoring and assessments.
  • Very good capacity to give technical presentations
  • Very good capacity to apply high quality standards
  • Very good capacity in preparing and writing technical documents in English
