About the Agronomy and R&D unit

The unit is responsible for R&D and agronomic competence within the company. Its objective is to develop and to strengthen Yara’s knowledge regarding Crops, Agronomy, and sustainable Agriculture. It also leads the agronomic input and requirements regarding the development of new and innovative Products, Services and Tools.

About the role

Yara is driven by a strong scientific and innovative spirit in its products and solutions. We place high importance on cutting-edge research focussing on developing solution paradigms suitable for future farming. This role is based within the Agronomic Analytics and Modelling group of Yara Agronomy R&D unit. The role shall focus on developing, testing and maintaining architectures for improved management of R&D.

We are looking for a motivated and experienced data engineer to join our team. The role involves R&D data management and building a future-proof data architecture . Further, the role is also expected to host updated knowledge on the technology landscape within Yara with respect to global data management and guide the Agronomic Analytics and Modelling team on efficient use of existing platforms and pipelines.

What you will be doing

• Manage and maintain the existing architecture of R&D database management systems and optimize processes of data capture and storage wherever necessary
• Lead and execute the transition of R&D database management towards a global data lake solution using our Yara IT infrastructure.
• Maintain an overview of the databases outside R&D and be the single point of contact for R&D colleagues for data retrieval
• Support the team in deployment of analytics/machine learning/deep learning models on global IT platforms
• Collaborate with other organisations within Yara Farming Solutions unit to identify data requirements and sourcing from external platforms

What you will bring

• Bachelors/Master’s degree in Computer Science
• Demonstrated ability to construct and maintain ETL pipelines
• Very good programming skills in Python, Java, R
• Experience in working with utilities such as Hadoop, Spark, Hive
• Experience with cloud service platforms such as AWS
• Experience with GitHub and JupyterLab
• Good level of knowledge in databases and schemas
• Capacity to work in global and local teams of specialists and willingness to upskill with future technologies
• Flexible with work timings (ability to work with global teams)
• Good cross-cultural skills, deep respect for different cultures and diversity.
• Fluency in English, knowledge of additional language is preferable.
