Position Summary:
The Data Scientist provides programming and informatics services in support of translational research and clinical studies of healthcare products such as drugs and companion diagnostics.

Essential functions of the job include but are not limited to:

Create source code in R for use in biomarker data management, translational informatics, and biomarker-driven clinical research with minimal guidance

Develop and execute data processing, quality control (QC) and analysis pipelines for biomarker data such as flow cytometry, next-generation sequencing (DNA, RNA), gene expression, IHC and other bioassays

Work with other team members to provide guidance on programming tasks related to data processing, QC and analysis pipelines

Identify suboptimal processes and develop improvement strategies to improve quality, efficiency, and reproducibility

Develop and maintain effective documentation and data specifications

Perform source code validation and application testing

Participate in research and development activities as appropriate

Contribute to the advancement of Precision's technology-based services in Biomarker Data Management and Translational Informatics

Contribute and lead as requested internal research & development projects related to methods and / or platform development

Performs work on problems of moderate scope with the creation of source code and developing and executing data processing requires in depth analysis

Minimum Required:
Bachelor's Degree in Computational Biology, Bioinformatics, Data Science, Biostatistics, Biology or related field

Other Required:
Proficiency in R, particularly with tidyverse environment. Familiarity with some other scripting languages (Python, Matlab, Perl, etc)

Understanding of data science, data wrangling, reproducible analysis pipeline fundamentals

Ability to work efficiently under Unix/Linux environment

Familiarity with relational databases APIs

Ability to work independently with little to no instruction on routine work

Exercises judgment within generally defined practices selecting an approach for obtaining solutions

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

Team player contributing to a positive, collaborative working environment

From time to time extended work hours may be required to meet business demands

Must be able to read, write, speak fluently and comprehend the English languageAbility to undertake occasional travel domestically and overseas which may include overnight stays.

Master's degree in Computational Biology, Bioinformatics, Data Science, Biostatistics, Biology or related field

Experience with processing biomarker data such as high-content flow cytometry, high-throughput or targeted gene expression assays (e.g. Nanostring, RNA-Seq), or other specialty lab data (e.g., immunoassays, IHC, SNP genotyping, qPCR)

Experience with AWS cloud computing platforms

Experience with genomic data and / or public databases (e.g. TCGA, dbGaP)

Experience with relational databases such as MySQL

Experience with source code management systems such as git
