We have an exciting opportunity for a Data Scientist to join our Data Centre of Excellence.

As a Data Scientist, you’ll play a key role in increasing our Machine Learning capability within Santander UK, combining a wide range of technical skills with business knowledge to turn vast quantities of data into value.

  • Using advanced data science techniques and approaches to solve specific business problems, exploring a variety of techniques to identify the optimal solution
  • Summarising large data sets into meaningful conclusions using available tools; discovering patterns and trends
  • Building predictive models and machine learning algorithms
  • Taking responsibility for projects and leading them without active supervision
  • Presenting the information in a logical way using data science visualisation tools
  • Engaging with clients within the bank to evaluate and identify data science problems that offer the greatest opportunities to the organisation

What you’ll bring:

These are the essential requirements you need to be successful in this role:

  • Extensive grasp of programming fundamentals, algorithms and data structures and experience in languages such as Python and SQL variations (Hive, Impala, PostgreSQL)
  • Knowledge of Data Science techniques with evidence of using them on data across supervised and unsupervised learning business problems
  • Technical understanding of most commonly used algorithms – Linear Regressions, Random Forests, SVMs, KNN, K-means
  • Experience of productionising machine learning models and creating business impact

It would also be nice for you to have:

  • Working knowledge of the following libraries: numpy, scipy, pandas, scikit learn, matplotlib, seaborn
  • DevOps experience in areas such as Git and Agile development methods as well as exposure to cloud computing services (AWS, Google Cloud Platform, Azure etc) is beneficial
  • Degree level or equivalent in a numerical subject such as Data Science, Computer Science, Mathematics, Engineering
  • Experience in practical big data processing (Hadoop), data visualization, information retrieval and Generative AI, Prompt engineering, AWS

What else you need to know:

This role is based in Unity Place – Milton Keynes.

We want our people to thrive at work and home, and also be able to deliver the best outcomes for our customers and to help each other develop. To support this, we offer site-based contracts with a hybrid working pattern and our expected level of attendance in an office is at least 12 days per month (pro-rata for part-time roles).
