Are you looking to drive the Data Science practise within the Industry 4,0 domain? Are you motivated by setting the direction within advanced analytics and machine learning use-cases, where you can apply the latest digital technologies, your skills and your passion to speed up our race against serious chronic diseases? Then join us for a life-changing career at PS Manufacturing Intelligence at Novo Nordisk.

The position

With the rapid advancement within the field of data science and data engineering, we are looking for a Lead Data Scientist to help us elevate our purpose to the next level. Our ambition is to use the latest analytical methods and apply cloud technologies to draw greater insights and future predictions from the data, which translates to improved decision making and understanding of our production equipment and processes.

Your main responsibilities as Lead Data Scientist will be to:

  • Contribute to broader regulatory and industry discussions, focused on the opportunities and best practises within data science in the GMP space
  • Be part of designing and implementing AI/ML solutions using statistical machine learning models, with a particular focus on video/image analytics, predictive maintenance, anomaly detection (vision or statistical ML), and Bayesian optimization for design of experiment.
  • Engage in end-to-end processes within a project’s lifecycle, including ideation, data collection, labelling, building and validating models, and deploying solutions
  • Be part of external communities and conduct technology scouting, technology maturity assessments, identifying suitable suppliers and vendors, and being part of defining user requirement specification
  • Communicate and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders i.e. colleagues at the production sites, domain experts, data stewards, data engineers, project managers, etc.

Taking on this role will enable you to grow your knowledge of manufacturing and process engineering, as well as develop yourself both as a technical advisor and leader within the data science community.

Many of the skills you need will be acquired through the day-to-day experience of this position, but we would prefer that are able to cover many of the following qualifications:

  • A Master’s degree or PhD in Applied Mathematics, Computer/Data Science, Physics, Engineering, Bioinformatics or similar
  • 3+ years of combined advanced analytics, python engineering and/or machine learning experience
  • Solid understanding and experience with different machine learning algorithms (tree-based, kernel-based, neural networks, unsupervised algorithms, etc.)
  • Good command of Python data science ecosystem (numpy, scipy, pandas, scikit-learn, jupuyter notebook, etc.)
  • Understanding of deep learning and experience with a deep learning framework (preferably pytorch or tensorflow)
  • Experience with writing and reviewing maintainable, testable, production-grade Python code

It would be considered an advantage if you also have:

  • Proven technical leadership experience, either with in-house data science teams or with broader communities of practise
  • Experience with automated testing and test-driven development in Python
  • Experience with cloud platforms and DevOps practices (our stack includes AWS as well as CI/CD though Azure DevOps)
  • Experience with Computer Vision (opencv, pillow, scikit-image)

As a person, you are structured and have a strong attention to detail while maintaining a good overview and the ability to manage several tasks at the same time. You are able to translate complex technical details into business decisions and have a flair for finding solutions within complex use-cases and projects. You enjoy working as a team and being able to have an impact on a wide variety of initiatives and projects. Since our working language is English, we expect you to be fluent in English.

About the department

You will be part of a diverse team, working with some of the most data savvy people in the company and on some of the most exciting advanced data projects across Novo Nordisk global production. Novo Nordisk is an international company with manufacturing sites around the world and sales affiliates in all corners of the globe. Our ambition is to be the frontier of data and analytics, use the latest techniques and cloud technologies to draw greater insights and future predictions from the data and thus making a significant impact on how we execute on our digital strategy within the Industry 4,0 domain.

Data is collected from sensors, vision systems, IP cameras, production machines, ERP systems, etc. , and transformed into daily insights that enable decision makers at all levels to make evidence-based decisions or fully automate the decision-making process. The opportunities vary from using AI at the edge to help machines to make better decisions in real-time, to using AI in the cloud to support operators at the line with better insight and decision making. We build both in-house solutions using open-source tools and AWS cloud services, but at the same time we perform technology scouting and with the right partner can outsource a project depending on the business case and maturity of solutions.
