Job Description

Verisk is seeking a Data Engineer. The candidate will work with a team of engineers or by him/her self to build, deploy, and support custom data pipelines, data warehouses, data lakes, APIs, and analytical platforms to serve internal and external customers in the Insurance domain. We are in the beginning stages of a major transformational effort and this is rare chance to utilize your unique experiences, skills, and ideas to make incredibly impactful contributions. You will work on cutting edge, high-value products with visibility across the organization and should be comfortable working in a dynamic environment.

Day-to-day responsibilities include but not limited to:

  • Solution Architecture, hands-on development, and operationalization of Analytical platform components and data pipelines
  • Collaborate with data scientists for data integration, preparation, and feature engineering
  • Collaborate with Business Champions, Product Managers, data scientists, data SMEs, Project Managers, Scrum Masters, CDO, Security and Architecture Review Board
  • Experience working in an agile environment
  • Guide Dev-ops automation, cloud maturity, and cloud cost control
  • Plan for Security, backup, disaster recovery, business continuity, and archiving
  • Production Support

  • Bachelor’s degree with 4-6 years of relevant experience
  • Recent, hands-on development experience with AWS Services (Lambda, Step Functions, Glue, EMR, API Gateway, EC2, S3, DynamoDB, RDS, IAM, SQS, ECS, EKS, Fargate, etc.) and AWS SDKs/CLI required
  • Recent, hands-on Python and PySpark development experience
  • Strong experience with cloud-based applications
  • Applied experience in solution architecture and business critical platform design
  • Practical knowledge of SQL, Postgress, Gitlab
  • Practical knowledge of Data Warehousing Platforms (Snowflake, Redshift, Postgres)
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Exceptional problem-solving/critical thinking and root cause analysis skills
  • Ability to learn and adapt new technologies
  • Knowledge of containerization (Docker) and orchestration (Kubernetes)
  • Experience deploying machine learning models is highly desired as well as prior Insurance domain experience is a plus
  • Exposure to Business Intelligence tools such as Power BI and ThoughtSpot is a plus
