About the job:
The Red Hat Engineering team is looking for a Senior Data Scientist to join us in Boston, MA. In this role, you will lead Red Hat's Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) and Accelerator division in Red Hat Research by developing open source tools and systems to enable developers to use accelerators and hardware as part of the Red Hat OpenShift platform, as well as leading outreach to university professors working in these fields.
What you will do:
  • Write, test, and deliver FPGA tooling based on experimentation with FPGA boards in the field
  • Examine existing open source tools in the FPGA design field and modify designs
  • Evaluate and document programmers' and data scientists' needs for hardware specification and design tooling, and determine feasibility and time frames by producing requirements for toolchain design based on these evaluations
  • Initiate discussions with engineers in the open source arena for open FPGA tooling to ensure that direction of projects will meet the requirements of potential users
  • Lead research projects with university graduate and undergraduate interns to conduct research and development related to the FPGA and Accelerator technology and software
What you will bring:
  • Bachelor's degree (U.S. or foreign equivalent) in computer science, computer engineering, or related field and 5+ years of experience in the job offered or related role OR Master's degree (U.S. or foreign equivalent) in computer science, computer engineering, or related field and 2+ years of experience in the job offered or related role
  • 2+ years of experience with: statistics and machine learning models and algorithms; programming experience in at least one modern programming language; hardware design tools like circuit design and Verilog; designing FPGA tooling and systems to support machine learning applications; and working with open source communities to develop open hardware solutions
  • Willingness to travel up to 10% of the time, following Red Hat’s COVID-19 guidelines; travel expenses reimbursed by Red Hat, Inc.
