Data Scientists

Sirris is looking for several new Data Scientists to join its Data and AI Competence Lab in Brussels. In that function, you will have the opportunity to work on a variety of topics in the context of collaborative and multi-disciplinary R&D projects, and you will help companies to innovate:

• You will contribute to industrially-driven research projects in the domain of data analytics.

• You will help companies with defining, setting up and evaluating data experiments.

• You will be working together with our industrial and research partners to develop data-driven solutions for problems in many diverse application domains such as renewable energy, manufacturing, smart environments, etc.

• In addition, you will discuss and write new project proposals with companies and research partners, you will contribute to project reporting and to the organisation of dissemination events towards companies, etc. There’s always a nice challenge ahead.

We are expanding our team with both junior as experienced profiles who are passionate about data science and AI and have a good knowledge of software engineering.

• For junior profiles we expect you to:

  • Have obtained a Master in Computer Science or Engineering, with demonstrable knowledge about state-of-the-art ML/AI technologies.
  • Have an outspoken drive to solve non-trivial industrial research challenges in different application domains (manufacturing, renewable energy, asset management, ...) via ML and AI technologies.

• For experienced profiles we expect you to:

  • Hold a PhD in Computer Science or a related engineering discipline; or hold a Master in one of these disciplines and have worked in an R&D context.
  • Have at least between 5-10 years of experience in software development and data analytics, with hands-on knowledge about state-of-the-art ML/AI technologies.
  • Be familiar with R&D proposal preparation and supervision of small project teams.
  • Contribute to the set-up of innovative industry-driven R&D projects and to the execution/management of such projects on an administrative and technological level by steering the project team.

• In order to fit in our collaborative and international environment, you are creative, dynamic and are able to work independently yet transparently towards colleagues. In addition, you are also a strong team player, both with colleagues as well as with external partners. Both individual and team problem solving skills are crucial in this position.

• You know how to interpret research results and transform them into innovative, applied solutions.

• You have the desire to work with the industry and to turn research results into services.

• You enjoy presenting (preliminary) results in a tangible way and can demonstrate engaging teaching skills by sharing knowledge with industry via workshops, seminars, masterclasses and social media.

• Knowledge about the following is a plus: statistical and machine learning tools such as scikit-learn and Pandas, non-relational databases such as MongoDB or time series databases such as InfluxDB.

• You have an excellent command of English and are able to clearly formulate arguments and reasoning. Knowledge of Dutch and/or French is a plus.

• And most of all: you are a fast learner that keeps on learning, improving, innovating in a continuously changing and fast-growing environment.
