Position Description

The Data Analyst is responsible for collecting and analyzing data across various business domains, with a specific emphasis on IT Applications. This position supports the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA).

Minimum/General Experience: 3 years of experience in data analysis and management; 2 years of experience with relational databases (e.g., SQL); 2 years of experience with creating Test Data (e.g., maintaining reference data and documentation)

Minimum Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Business Administration, or related field

Essential Skills/Qualifications

  • Experience with data querying, data mapping, and transformation analysis
  • Experience with XML, JSON, structured and unstructured data
  • Experience in data models, database design, data mining, and segmentation techniques
  • Knowledge of reporting packages
  • Knowledge of databases (e.g., SQL)
  • Knowledge of programming (e.g., JavaScript, ETL frameworks)
  • Knowledge of statistical packages (e.g., Excel, SPSS, SAS)
  • Strong analysis and problem-solving skills
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Experience with enterprise-level data migration and implementation from legacy systems (preferred)
  • Experience working with data science and business intelligence (BI) teams (preferred)
  • Experience working in a Cloud environment (e.g., Amazon Web Services (AWS) GovCloud, Microsoft Azure for Government) (preferred)
  • Knowledge of the system development life cycle, software project management approaches and requirements, design, and testing techniques (preferred)
  • Knowledge of established and emerging data technologies (preferred)

Security: Ability to obtain/maintain a Federal Civilian Public Trust

  • U.S. Citizenship or Permanent Resident that has lived in the United States for at least 3 years

  • Covers 5-10 year period and in some instances lifetime events
  • OPM Security Investigations Index (SII)
  • DOD Defense Central Investigations Index (DCII)

  • Written inquiries to previous employers and references listed on the application for employment
  • Potential interviews with the subject, spouse, neighbors, supervisor, coworkers
  • Law enforcement check
  • Court records check
  • Education check- Attendance and Degrees

Tasks/activities Include, But Are Not Limited To

  • Gathers data from various sources, including conducting surveys, tracking visitor characteristics, and datasets
  • Cleans and maintains the quality of data to ensure accurate interpretations
  • Models and designs database structures, determining data storage and relationships
  • Interprets data to identify patterns, trends, and insights that answer specific business questions
  • Presents findings through visualizations, reports, and presentations to stakeholders
  • Collaborates with multiple teams, including a second subcontractor team, to integrate and modernize business applications
