What do we need from you?

Essential criteria:

  • Specialist knowledge and experience of data analysis and processing, for example:
  • Identifying specific information, trends and correlations from data
  • Data analysis languages and tools, e.g. use of Python, Excel, Splunk, PowerBI
  • Data processing, e.g. scripting, regular expressions, macros, automation
  • Knowledge and understanding of common information technologies, for example:
  • Enterprise IT, e.g. Windows, SQL
  • Networking, e.g. TCP/IP, firewalls, proxy services
  • Security, e.g. encryption, data loss prevention
- Cloud, e.g. Microsoft 365, software-as-a-service
  • Analytical, logical and methodical approach to solving complex problems and the ability to analyse, model, interpret data, and solve diverse and non-routine problems independently and effectively
  • Excellent IT skills, particularly in written documents, spreadsheets and other reporting
  • Self-motivated, identifying and completing tasks without supervision and under own initiative
  • Customer-focused with excellent verbal and written interpersonal skills, so that complex technical issues may be clearly explained to colleagues
  • Experience in building effective working relationships with colleagues from many areas across the organisation and external partners and suppliers

Desirable criteria:

  • Degree in statistics, mathematics or a related subject involving maths, such as economics or data science.
  • Significant knowledge and experience of reporting packages (Business Objects etc), databases (SQL etc), programming (XML, Javascript, or ETL frameworks)
  • Significant experience of Microsoft Power BI
  • Experience of security monitoring systems, such as Splunk Enterprise Security
  • Knowledge of information management, security and assurance practices
  • Knowledge of infographics and effective visual representation of information

SC-level Security Clearance or willingness to obtain SC clearance is mandatory for this role and requires that you have lived in the UK for the last 3 years. The length of required residency may depend on individual circumstances.

This is a full time post. However, requests for flexible, part-time working and job share will be considered, taking into account at all times the operational needs of the Department.
