Experienced Senior Data Engineer to join an impressive company working on diseases of the gastrointestinal tract. As a Senior Data Engineer, you will play a critical role in designing, developing, and maintaining my client’s data infrastructure and systems. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams, including data scientists, analysts, and software engineers, to ensure the efficient and effective collection, storage, processing, and analysis of large-scale data sets. Your expertise in data engineering, database management, and data integration will be crucial in enabling data-driven decision-making and driving innovation within our organization.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain robust data pipelines and ETL processes to extract, transform, and load large volumes of structured and unstructured data from diverse sources into our data warehouse.
- Architect and optimize data storage, ensuring scalability, reliability, and performance for handling complex analytics and reporting needs.
- Collaborate with data scientists and analysts to understand their requirements and provide technical solutions for data modelling, data transformation, and data visualization.
- Implement and maintain data governance frameworks, ensuring data quality, data security, and compliance with relevant regulations.
- Evaluate and implement new technologies, tools, and frameworks to enhance data processing capabilities and improve overall data engineering efficiency.
- Monitor and troubleshoot data processing jobs, identify, and resolve performance issues, and optimize system performance.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define and implement data architecture standards, data governance policies, and data management processes.
- Stay updated with industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in data engineering, and share knowledge with the team to drive continuous improvement.
Background
- PhD degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or multiple years’ experience in a related field.
- Proven work experience as a Data Engineer or similar role, with a focus on large-scale data processing and data pipeline development.
- Strong programming skills in languages like Python, Java, or Scala, with experience in building data pipelines using frameworks like Apache Spark or Apache Beam.
- Expertise in SQL and experience with relational databases (e.g., PostgreSQL, MySQL) and NoSQL databases (e.g., MongoDB, Cassandra).
- In-depth knowledge of data modelling, data warehousing, and data integration concepts.
- Familiarity with cloud-based data platforms and services (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud Platform) and proficiency in using cloud-based data processing tools (e.g., AWS Glue, Azure Data Factory, Google Cloud Dataflow).
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to optimize data processing workflows and improve system performance.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams and communicate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
- Proven experience in data governance, data security, and compliance is a plus.
