Data Engineer

Responsibilities

• Manages the flow of data from source to user, working in a fast paced and cooperative environment.
• Designs and creates services to collect data from wherever it is published and in any format and prepares data for text extraction and natural language parsing tools, OCR, text analytics, and de-chroming.
• Designs and creates services to build, index and serves big data collection to users in enterprise search systems.
• Develops, constructs, tests and maintains data architectures.
• Identifies ways to improve data reliability, efficiency and quality.
• Uses large data sets to address business issues for customers.
• Deploys sophisticated analytics programs, machine learning and statistical methods.
• Prepares data for predictive and prescriptive modeling.
• Troubleshoots and solves document flow and accessibility issues and communicating findings to the Content Operations Team and Project Managers.

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, related technical field or equivalent practical experience
• 3+ years experience with one or more general purpose programming languages, including but not limited to: Perl, Java, or Python
• Experience in large scale data processing using traditional and distributed systems
• Experience designing and operating data models and data warehouses as well as experience in SQL and NoSQL database management systems
• Experience with a continuous integration build system
• Experience working using JIRA/Confluence workflows
• Experience with git, docker, Kubernetes
• Effective project management, problem solving, analytical and troubleshooting skills
• Knowledge of MVC, Codeception, Jest, React, TypeScript, NodeJS, Elasticsearch, Redux
• Knowledge of Test Driven Development (TDD)
• Understanding of secure coding standards is a plus
• Experience with Slack, Toggl and Trello a plus

Northern Light employees are currently all working remotely, but this position will be required to work from our Boston (Charlestown Navy Yard) office post-pandemic.
