Data Analyst (Maritime) - Remote GMT (2+/2- hours)

About the role We are looking for an individual within the maritime domain (naval architecture, marine science, marine engineering or similar) who is also familiar with processing, analysing and interpreting vessel performance data. You would be responsible for supporting the 90POE Performance Product team in the onboarding of new customer voyage and vessel data to OpenOcean Studio. As the analyst you will help customers interpret performance trends identified in OpenOcean Studio. The analyst will also support internal and external stakeholders in implementing and maintaining business intelligence dashboards. This is a broad role that requires a can-do attitude. Day-to-day will vary from ad-hoc analyses to more regular, repeated tasks where any effort in making the processes repeatable will pay dividends later. Our products rely heavily on data collected from multiple sources such as: Customers' vessels, through loT systems and operational (e.g. noon) reports Weather forecast/ hindcasts Cloud-based services such as AIS data Enriched data and model outputs, for example, digital twins developed by our in-house data science team OpenOcean Studio platform (vessel/ port information) A bit about our team The Performance Stream in 90POE is responsible for the end-to-end lifecycle of the vessel performance products - requirements gathering, specification, UX/UI design, implementation, and, all the way to customer engagement and continuous product improvement. Our team consists of a business leader, a senior advisor (to whom the role reports), product managers with maritime domain expertise, and software development teams. Our product suite consists of voyage planning, monitoring and post-voyage reporting. In addition, OpenOcean Studio is integrated with Amazon QuickSight for more complex and bespoke customer reporting requirements. Essential skills Understanding of vessel performance fundamentals and the relationship between parameters (speed, power, consumption, draft, weather etc.) Familiar with typical datasets used in vessel performance analysis and operational data (noon reports, onboard sensors, sea trials) used to drive key performance metrics Ability to transform and combine data sets (e.g. from a customer’s noon report format to 90POEs) Data analysis/data quality analysis and understanding of plausible vessel performance values Basic Python/SQL skills to carry out analysis (incl. use of notebooks/templates prepared by others) Ability to use business intelligence tools with vessel performance/operational data Soft skills 1-3 years in the maritime industry and are excited about how to innovate through software. You are passionate about vessel performance, and looking to develop your skills in this growing and in-demand area, especially as carbon reduction is becoming the top priority within the maritime industry. You can work independently and find your own path to a solution where often there isn't a prescribed way or a precedent. You are curious, analytical and have a pragmatic mindset who can apply the 80/20 principle (solving 80% of the problem with 20% of the effort). There will be an opportunity to learn and develop alongside experienced maritime professionals (both within 90POE and our customers) but, equally, an opportunity to bring your own knowledge, ideas and solutions to the table.
