Insights Data Engineer

PayNearMe is an innovative technology company headquartered in Silicon Valley with our employees distributed all across the US. We’re in growth mode and looking to add a dynamic Insight Data Engineer, reporting to the Senior Data Architect.

As our Insight Data Engineer, you will focus on the stakeholder, building out the datamarts and Looker infrastructure needed to provide up-to-date insights to those who need them. You will also assist with other parts of the data architecture, schema design, ETL, and data pipelining, as needed.

What you’ll do:

We are building out a data team to define and implement the next generation of our data architecture using AWS, Snowflake and Looker.

Our goals are:

• Capture all important business data from our transactional system into our data lake
• Build out datamarts for each of our stakeholders
• Provide state-of the art analytics to all stakeholders
• Separate reporting and analytic data from transactional so that those systems can operate independently
  

Primary Responsibilities:

• Create and maintain Looker models to make our business data accessible
• Work with stakeholders to determine their data needs
• Build beautiful and useful dashboards for stakeholders
• Help teach stakeholders how to build and maintain their own dashboards
• Help define needed datamarts, and flow of data into the datamarts
• Define and construct a testing methodology to ensure stakeholder data is correct

Skills & Experience:

• At least 5 years of relevant experience
• Expertise with BI tools such as Looker
• Proficiency in at least one SQL variant (we use MySQL and SnowSQL), with experience writing performant queries
• Ability to design Snowflake warehouses, using SQL based tasks and streams to move data around
• Strong communication skills to work with stakeholders to understand their data needs
• Ability to independently suggest and implement solutions to difficult problems

Location: Flexible/Remote

Travel: Quarterly travel to Santa Clara once permitted
