Why choose between doing meaningful work and having a fulfilling life? At MITRE, you can have both. That's because MITRE people are committed to tackling our nation's toughest challenges—and we're committed to the long-term well-being of our employees. MITRE is different from most technology companies. We are a not-for-profit corporation chartered to work for the public interest, with no commercial conflicts to influence what we do. The R&D centers we operate for the government create lasting impact in fields as diverse as cybersecurity, healthcare, aviation, defense, and enterprise transformation. We're making a difference every day—working for a safer, healthier, and more secure nation and world. Our workplace reflects our values. We offer competitive benefits, exceptional professional development opportunities, and a culture of innovation that embraces diversity, inclusion, flexibility, collaboration, and career growth. If this sounds like the choice you want to make, then choose MITRE—and make a difference with us.

MITRE’s Advanced Processing and Exploitation Technologies department effectively combines the deep technical knowledge required to develop capabilities with critical domain knowledge to harness and shape those capabilities to meet multiple sponsor mission needs. We have the technical depth and breadth to thrive in mission focused R&D/S&T organizations and the well-earned sponsor credibility to execute work programs relating to research, analysis, prototyping, T&E, etc.

We seek motivated individuals who are interested in applying AI and machine learning algorithms for the exploitation of remote sensing data. Remote Sensing data refers to those collected using infrared imagery (OPIR), hyperspectral imagery (HSI), radar (SAR/GMTI), full motion video (FMV), Wide Are Motion Imagery (WAMI), and 3D data from a range of sources.

Come join a team that is committed to strong collaboration, intellectual rigor, and prototyping “game-changing” and “tip-of-the-spear” operational solutions for our government sponsors. In most cases, staff are granted substantial flexibility in their working environment, including flexible hours and remote work options.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Programming in Python or other scripting language
  • Developing algorithms using machine learning techniques and have familiarity with at least one deep learning framework, preferably pyTorch or Tensorflow
  • Prototyping, testing, and evaluating algorithms in a team environment
  • Access to cutting-edge software to analyze large datasets, create new analytic tools, and address problems of critical national importance including video, infrared, hyperspectral, SAR, and others, using data exploitations algorithms and scientific software tools.
  • White-board, brainstorm and problem solve with experienced technical staff to develop solutions for challenging problems
  • Leverage the collective wisdom of the government, academia, industry, and other FFRDCs to create transformational impact, and help advance the field by sharing our research via publications and professional conferences.
  • Engineer, build, and test new hardware/electronics for advanced imaging applications.
  • Perform field experiments to test new sensors and algorithms (e.g., video, radar, and infrared imagery systems). Recent test locations include the White Sands Missile Test Range, Nevada Test Site, and the Naval Surface Warfare Center.

Required Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in related technical field with 10+ years related experience
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a TS/SCI government security clearance
  • Willingness/ability to obtain security clearance
  • Demonstrated project/task leadership experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to foster collaboration across organizational units
