Job Description


The Data Scientist will Verisk 3E improves our business processes and help us make smarter decisions to deliver even better products. The primary focus will be in applying machine learning, predictive analysis, data mining techniques, and building and training high-quality models that will integrate with Verisk 3E business processes and products.

Specific tasks may include any of the following; automate risk assessment scoring using machine learning techniques, expanding Generics (broad chemical classes) library, automate collection of regulatory content, scraping regulatory websites and preparing news articles for text summarization, predicting financial regulatory violations based on chemical inventory and regional location, classification of products and substances, document data extraction and classification, and using predictive analytics to help reduce workplace risk.

  • Research and develop statistical learning models for data analysis
  • Collaborate with product management and engineering departments to understand company needs and devise possible solutions
  • Communicate results and ideas to key decision-makers
  • Research and implement new statistical or other mathematical methodologies as needed for specific models or analysis
  • Keep up-to-date with latest technology trends
  • Selecting features, building and optimizing classifiers using machine learning techniques
  • Data mining using state-of-the-art methods using web scraping tools and APIs where possible
  • Enhancing data collection procedures to include information that is relevant for building analytic systems

  • Processing, cleansing, and verifying the integrity of data used for analysis
  • Doing ad-hoc analysis and presenting results clearly

Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Applied Math or related field
  • Excellent understanding of Deep Learning (e.g. CNN, RNN) and machine learning techniques and algorithms, such as Classification, Regression, Clustering, Feature Engineering, NLP, Decision Trees
  • Experience with common data science toolkits, such as R, Python, Anaconda, TensorFlow, Weka, SQL, NLTK, Scikit-learn, Keras
  • Great communication skills
  • Experience with data visualization tools, such as Tableau
  • Proficiency in using query languages such as SQL, Hive, Pig
  • Experience with NoSQL databases, such as MongoDB, DynamoDB
  • Good applied statistics skills, such as distributions, statistical testing, regression
  • Good scripting and programming skills, such as JavaScript
  • Data-oriented personality
