Job Description

Nine's Data Engineering team is on a mission to modernise how we store, consume and process data to derive value from it. We're building and managing cutting-edge pipelines, applications, and infrastructure, handling hundreds of millions of daily events, and crafting rich data models that inform business decisions at every level.

We build solutions that bring data to life for users, including dashboards, Slack integrations, and automated reports. We also provide data feeds to downstream systems to personalise audience experiences and drive commercial outcomes.

We have a great opportunity for a Senior Data Engineer to join an Agile Squad that operates at the cross-section of Nine’s Streaming services and data products. 9Now is Australia’s leading broadcast video-on-demand platform, accounting for almost half of all BVOD minutes viewed across our apps. Data plays a critical role in the streaming value chain through the collection of audience metrics which inform broadcast ratings and underpin commercialisation efforts on 9Now.

As a Senior Data Engineer you will;

Be the VoZ and Total TV SME for the Streaming data squad

Design and implement data models that meet business needs and enable efficient querying and analysis.

Develop and maintain data pipelines to extract, load, and transform data into data warehouses.

Ensure pipelines are reliable, scalable, and efficient, considering data volume, velocity, and variety.

Implement data quality checks to maintain accuracy and reliability.

Set up monitoring and alerting systems to proactively resolve issues.

Perform root cause analysis and implement corrective actions for incidents.

Contribute to the technical design and vision of the data platform.

Qualifications

Essential to the role;

Fluent in at least one programming language (e.g. Python, C#, Java).

Proficient in SQL

Understanding of OLTP concepts including normalised schema design.

Understanding of OLAP concepts and data model design.

Experience leading the designing and building data pipelines, ETL processes, and managing data infrastructure.

Experience leading workflows automation, and managing task dependencies using a tool like Apache Airflow.

Desirable Qualifications, Experience & Skills

A bachelor's or master's degree in computer science, software engineering, data engineering, data science, information technology or a related field.

Experience with Google Cloud Platform, AWS or Azure including services for data storage, processing, and analytics.

Experience with cloud deployment and test automation using a CI/CD solution such as Cloud Build or Concourse

Experience in deploying cloud infrastructure as code (IaC) using Terraform or similar
