Are you the Data Scientist that will help us expand our data analytics platform in the future? Are you motivated by instrument data capture, advanced analytics, and machine learning to boost traditional scientific research and speed up our race against serious chronic diseases? Then join the Data science, Automation and Software (DAS) Team as our new Data Scientist in Drug Product Development.


The position

Your main responsibility will be to contribute to invention and creation of next generation pharmaceuticals through state-of-the-art algorithms and relevant data analytics. In the role you will collaborate across the DAS Team to identify problems where ML algorithms can improve predictability, scalability and faster decision making within drug product development. You will be collaborating with process experts, IT specialists and leading data scientist groups across Novo Nordisk to understand and identify desired applications of data science for process improvements.You will have the responsibility to have the overview of and be able to critically assess advanced analytics to forecast trends and events through predictive modelling and statistics.

Furthermore, you will, in collaboration with our development team, be developing production level application solutions running in the cloud, using a modern tech stack. And, you will take part in our journey to increase data availability and improve visual management across the site.


Qualifications and skills

You hold a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Bioinformatics, or other relevant field with +5 years relevant work experience in data science. Advanced degree may be substituted for experience as appropriate. We expect you to bring strong technical skills in data science, and knowledge in cloud DevOps principles.

You like to drive decisions in your area of expertise and take pride in helping your colleagues in a pulsing and dynamic environment. You enjoy working in an informal atmosphere where flexibility and responsibility go hand in hand as well as working in a dynamic team environment.


Expected technical skills

  • Experience writing production code
  • Experience in python-based ML or ML related tools (NumPy, pandas, scikit- learn)
  • Good understanding of strengths and weaknesses of a range of machine learning modelling techniques
  • Experience identifying and framing problems for machine learning, including POC development
  • Solid skills within data wrangling and data pre-processing in general, including knowledge of common pitfalls
  • Working with other developers to ensure that systems are designed for reliability, performance, and testability

Preferred technical skills

  • Experience with running machine learning in production
  • Experience implementing end-to-end machine learning solutions/applications in AWS
  • Interest or experience working with Bayesian optimization
  • DevOps/MLOps including integration, testing, releasing, deployment and infrastructure management

Preferred technical knowledge in our current technology stack

Platform & Process:

  • Amazon Web Services (preferred)/Microsoft Azure
  • Serverless Computing
  • Infrastructure as code using CDK or related technologies
  • CI/CD Pipelines using Azure DevOps
  • SCRUM method supported by Azure DevOps
  • Automated Unit Testing
  • Object Oriented Design

Back-End:

  • Python
  • AWS Technology Stack – Lambda, ECS, EC2, Glue, API gateway, Step Functions
  • Micro-service architecture
  • Security and Authentication – OAuth, Azure AD, AWS secret manager
  • SQL – SQL Server, T-SQL, PL-SQL, Oracle, Redshift

Front-End:

  • Vue.js (experience with similar SPA Frameworks such as React and Angular)
  • JavaScript, Typescript, HTML/CSS, PHP

About the department

Drug Product Development (DPDev) is part of Novo Nordisk’s Research & Early Development (R&ED) family and acts as a link between the research unit and the production, spanning from early development to phase 3 clinical trials and registration. Our ambition is to improve our patients lives by developing the world finest drug substance and injectable drug products.

The position is anchored in the team Data science, Automation & Software, where we focus on bridging life science research and computer science by developing, implementing and operating software applications. The team consists of highly skilled subject matter experts with different scientific backgrounds, ranging from formulation specialists and data scientists to analytical experts and data engineers.
