Job Description
Your Family. Your Home. The Planet. Resideo is committed to Protecting What Matters Most. As an Energy Scientist in our Energy Science Team, you will play a critical role in Resideo's push to influence the planet, climate change, and the homes we live in. Your responsibilities will encompass contributing to the technical advancement of energy efficiency and load management products that impact millions of Resideo homes.
Working closely with a diverse team, you will be instrumental in shaping the scientific and technical initiatives driving the creation of products and features aimed at optimizing the operation of the electrical grid and individual homes. You will receive training to assume the day-to-day technical operations involving the analysis and supervision of Demand Response events. This training will involve developing expertise in the operations and data generated by managed loads (such as thermostats/HVAC systems, water heaters, electric vehicles), as well as understanding the various program requirements in which these loads participate.
The team will rely on you to function as an Energy Detective, uncovering insights into event performance, troubleshooting issues, and identifying inconsistencies before they lead to adverse outcomes. Additionally, your contributions will extend to the development of multi-objective optimization control strategies, especially as the complexity of grid-scale solutions continues to expand.
Resideo fosters a culture of innovation, so not only will you be joined by thousands of other motivated and passionate colleagues with decades of highly technical and applicable experience, you will also have the tools you need to succeed. Our company's products date back as far as 1885 to the first furnace regulator and alarm, and with more than 2,400 patents you will be encouraged to add to that legacy in your quest to make a difference in the fight against climate change.
JOB DUTIES:
Our ideal candidate for this position is an Energy Engineer or Data Scientist with experience with Demand Response, thermostat, and/or energy consumption data. This expertise should be evident through your adeptness in analyzing, modeling, and even predicting future trends (while, of course, adhering to the Laws of Thermodynamics). Key to the role is an ability to provide technical support during Demand Response events as multiple teams will count on you for guidance as the needs of our utility customers are constantly evolving. Reporting to the Manager of the Energy Science Team, we expect you will strike a balance between supporting the efforts of senior staff, leading individual projects, expanding your skills, and strengthening the team.
YOU MUST HAVE:
- BA degree in Engineering, Physics, Architecture, Mathematics, etc.
- 4+ years analyzing and presenting insights drawn from large sets of energy data (or equivalent combination of education and experience)
- Written and verbal communication skills with the confidence to interface with peers, partners, and customers (technical and non-technical audiences)
- Demonstrable understanding of core building energy and electrical system concepts
- An ambition to continually increase your depth/breadth in multiple technical areas
- Coding experience (Python preferred to match with the rest of the team, but we'll consider proficiency in R, Java/Scala, etc.)
- Experience performing data analysis of large datasets, using analytics tools (e.g. Pandas, SQL, Spark), and preparing visualizations to explore technical and scientific questions
WE VALUE:
- A passion for energy technology
- MS in a related field with relevant publications
- An understanding of the dynamics of electrical utilities and energy markets
- Lab and/or field testing experience, especially within building energy and IoT Smart Home products
- Experience with cloud ecosystems (our stack is mostly in Microsoft Azure and works with Databricks & Azure Data Factory, but alternative experience will still be valued)
- Involvement conducting or preparing data for 3rd party evaluations of technology or programs
WHAT'S IN IT FOR YOU:
- Benefits - Resideo provides comprehensive benefits, including life and health insurance, a life assistance program, accidental death and dismemberment insurance, disability insurance, retirement plans, vacation & holidays
