Job Description


Overview

MLSE is looking for a highly motivated and energetic Data Scientist to join our Data Science practice to work on hockey tracking data. Our Data Scientists are responsible to design, prototype and implement high quality algorithms to drive fan experiences and work with Team Operations to optimize existing ML models while optimizing for high accuracy and low latency.

Responsibilities

  • Work with large tracking datasets to solve difficult non-routine analysis problems
  • Conduct end-to-end analysis that includes data gathering, processing, analysis, ongoing deliverables and maintaining existing models
  • Ability to work independently to design and execute pilot projects to validate ideas
  • Build and prototype analysis pipelines iteratively to provide insights at scale
  • Build recommendation systems to create best and next-best product offerings
  • Build tools or perform independent research to understand incorrect classification or outlier impact on the model
  • Compare multiple models (Catboost vs xgboost vs rnn vs cnn) to optimize metric that is used to measure model performance (ex. log loss function)
  • Expert level of data science development (Spark, Python, Scala, Julia), database languages (SQL, HIVE) and APIs
  • Demonstrated skills in selecting the right statistical/ML tools given a data analysis problem
  • Proven ability to develop partnerships with technical peers and business unit leaders

Qualifications
  • Strong understanding of deep learning and physics
  • Experience in reinforcement learning is a nice to have
  • Experience in working with sports tracking data is a nice to have
  • Extensive experience with Python
  • Experience in scaling models to run in production- real time environment
  • Affinity for teamwork with others to solve problems
  • Self-motivation and ability to work independently in an efficient manner
  • Flexibility and availability for work on call, outside of regular work hours, as needed to support live sports
